MangiaMaira is one of the most beloved gourmet walking tours in the Cuneo plains. It takes place in Vottignasco, a small town in the Province of Cuneo (CN), Piedmont, along the picturesque Sentiero sul Maira (Maira Trail) that runs along the river's right bank. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Vottignasco Tourist Association (ProVotti) and is part of a series of local initiatives that have successfully transformed a natural trail into a celebration of food, flavor, and community for the entire Savigliano area.
A gourmet walk with multiple stops
The MangiaMaira formula is simple yet effective: you walk, and you eat. Along the route, several gourmet stops are set up where participants enjoy a varied menu, dish by dish, while surrounded by the lush countryside. The experience begins with a welcome aperitif and continues with appetizers, hand-cut beef tartare, oven-baked lasagne, a refreshing lemon sorbet, and finally, local cheeses paired with honey and dessert.
The signature dish of the day is the salsiccia nobile di Vottignasco, served with sides: an iconic product that ties the event to local culinary traditions. The presence of local producers and farms also makes the walk a showcase for the flavors of the Cuneo plains.
Nature, fairytales, and entertainment
MangiaMaira is about more than just food: along the Maira Trail, a magical fairytale forest is created by the volunteers and creative minds of Vottignasco, featuring installations, characters, stories, and interactive activities that enchant both adults and children. Scarecrows, fantastical figures, sensory paths, and workshops turn the walk into an experience suitable for the whole family, where children are just as much the protagonists as the adults.
An April 25th tradition in Piedmont
Traditionally held on April 25th, MangiaMaira has become an early spring classic for those looking for a day trip just a few kilometers from Savigliano, Saluzzo, and Cuneo. The setting of the Maira River, the cultivated expanses of the plains, and the convivial atmosphere attract over a thousand participants every year, confirming the deep bond between Vottignasco, its Pro Loco, and the promotion of the Piedmontese territory.

L'edizione 2026 ha segnato i dieci anni della MangiaMaira, con un afflusso record di oltre 1.300 partecipanti. Il ritrovo era fissato alle ore 11 al salone l'Amas di Vottignasco, da cui prendeva il via la passeggiata enogastronomica lungo il Sentiero sul Maira.
Il menù in 8 tappe
Il percorso prevedeva un aperitivo di benvenuto, l'antipasto realizzato in collaborazione con Orto Sabbione, la battuta al coltello, le lasagne al forno, un sorbetto al limone a metà cammino, la salsiccia nobile di Vottignasco con contorno, il formaggio della fattoria Gallina Golosa abbinato al miele della società agricola Abejo d'Or e infine il dolce.
Prezzi e bosco delle fiabe
Il menù costava 27 euro per gli adulti e 12 euro per i bambini fino a 12 anni, con la possibilità di un menù senza glutine. La grande novità del decennale è stato il magico bosco delle fiabe allestito lungo il sentiero, con storie e attività interattive per grandi e piccini.

The meeting point is at the Amas hall in Vottignasco, where the walk along the Sentiero sul Maira begins on the right bank of the river.
How to get there
Vottignasco can be reached by car from the Cuneo plains, near Villafalletto and Savigliano. The nearest train station is Savigliano, on the Turin-Cuneo line, from which you can continue by car.
Costs and Booking
The menu costs 27 euros for adults and 12 euros for children up to 12 years old; a gluten-free menu is also available. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the points of sale indicated by the Pro Loco; spots are limited and booking is recommended.
