The historic fair dedicated to the king of the Piedmontese Christmas table
The Ancient National Capon Fair of Morozzo is one of the most cherished Advent events in Piedmont. Every December, the village of Morozzo, in the province of Cuneo, transforms to celebrate its signature product: the Morozzo Capon, an excellence recognized in 1999 as the first Slow Food Presidium for meat in Italy. The fair has roots stretching back centuries, and following its revival after the Second World War by the local bourgeoisie, it has become a true meeting point for livestock farming, local cuisine, commerce, and art.
The absolute star is the capon, raised using traditional methods on the farms of the Cuneo plains. Its tender meat and delicate flavor have always been the centerpiece of the Piedmontese Christmas table. During the event, breeders exhibit their finest specimens, which are judged by a panel of experts and a popular vote to award the prize for the most beautiful pairs of capons.
The fair offers a rich and varied program that involves the entire town:
Visiting the Capon Fair means discovering one of the most authentic gastronomic traditions of the Cuneo area, in a pre-Christmas atmosphere that combines flavors, culture, and community life. The event is organized by the Consortium for the Protection and Promotion of the Morozzo Capon in collaboration with the Pro Loco and local associations.
