From forest to table: the De.Co. truffle of Briaglia, featuring dogs, scenic trails, and a convivial aperitif
In the heart of the Monregalese area, in the province of Cuneo, the village of Briaglia is betting on its most precious treasure: the De.Co. truffle (Municipal Designation of Origin). The Pro Loco of Briaglia, led by Silvano Borsarelli, launched a comprehensive project in 2026 to promote this product, supported by funding from the Fondazione CRC. The Truffle Hunting Demonstration on the Sentiero Landandè is one of the key events in this program, designed to share and showcase local truffle culture up close.
The highlight of the day is the simulated truffle hunting demonstration, conducted with a trained truffle dog. It is a unique opportunity to observe the extraordinary symbiosis between human, animal, and forest: the dog sniffs, digs, and signals, while the 'trifolao' (truffle hunter) guides the search. More than just a demonstration, it is a story of the emotions and ancient gestures that accompany this Piedmontese tradition, where the truffle represents a premier gastronomic and cultural heritage.
After the demonstration, participants walk a section of the Sentiero Landandè, the famous network of trails winding for over 50 kilometers through the countryside of the Unione Monregalese, connecting Briaglia to the towns of Vicoforte, Niella Tanaro, San Michele Mondovì, and Mondovì. The territory of Briaglia is among the most nature-immersed parts of the entire loop, featuring woods, meadows, historic chapels, and even ancient archaeological sites like dolmens and menhirs. It is precisely in these undergrowths that the truffle finds its ideal habitat.
The day concludes with a convivial aperitif based on local products, a moment of sharing that brings the experience to a perfect close. It is the best way to savor the authentic flavors of the Cuneo Langhe and discover how the De.Co. truffle can become the symbol of an entire community.
The initiative is open to all, including families and young people, and is organized in collaboration with the Sentiero Landandè association, chaired by Erminio Meroni. It is a virtuous example of how protecting a local product can intertwine with the enhancement of natural trails and the landscape of the Municipality of Briaglia, a hidden gem in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont.
The event on June 21, 2026, represents the experiential highlight of the De.Co. truffle promotion project launched by the Pro Loco of Briaglia. Following the introductory conference on May 16, dedicated to the scientific and regulatory aspects of the truffle, this day brings the public directly into the woods.
The simulated truffle hunting demonstration with a dog highlights the symbiosis between the animal and the fungus, and the emotions of an experience lived in the beauty of nature. Following this, a walk on the Sentiero Landandè leads participants through the woods and landscapes of Briaglia, concluding with a convivial aperitif based on local products.
The event is realized in collaboration with the Sentiero Landandè association, chaired by Erminio Meroni, and is part of the broader project supported by the Fondazione CRC.
The event is open to all, including families and young people. Detailed times and the meeting point are communicated by the Pro Loco of Briaglia closer to the event.
The event takes place in Briaglia (CN), in the Monregalese area, along the Sentiero Landandè. The meeting point is communicated by the Pro Loco of Briaglia closer to the event date.
By car: Briaglia can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Mondovì exit), then following signs for Vicoforte and Briaglia. The nearest train station is in Mondovì, just a few kilometers away.
As this is a walk in the woods, comfortable trekking shoes and clothing suitable for a nature trail are recommended. For information and to confirm participation, please contact the Pro Loco of Briaglia or the Sentiero Landandè association ([email protected], tel. +39 370 3112101).
