The patronal feast of San Michele Mondovì: a blend of faith, tradition, and the local De.Co. sausage.
In the heart of the Monregalese area, in the province of Cuneo, the small town of San Michele Mondovì owes its name to the saint who is celebrated every year in late September with the Saint Michael the Archangel Patronal Feast. It is the most anticipated event of the year for the community: a weekend where the streets of the town center fill with stalls, aromas, and music, and where the religious dimension intertwines with the convivial and gastronomic spirit typical of Piedmontese village festivals.
The spiritual heart of the festival remains the solemn mass in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel, followed by the traditional procession through the village streets. Surrounding these devotional moments is a rich program of activities designed for all ages, the result of collaboration between the municipality, local associations, and volunteers. The festival is also an opportunity to reconnect: the aperitif with music, the community lunch under the marquee, and the conviviality that characterizes the villages of the Langhe and Monregalese make it a deeply identity-driven event.
The most anticipated gastronomic moment is the presentation of the Salsiccia di San Michele, recognized as a De.Co. (Municipal Denomination) product: a specialty made with a blend of pork and lamb, which can be enjoyed raw or cooked, boasting a bold and unmistakable flavor. It is a true local pride, rooted in rural tradition and celebrated with tastings and dedicated events throughout the festival.
Beyond the religious and gastronomic aspects, the festival offers plenty of entertainment: the market and stalls that bring the squares to life, street food, a funfair for the little ones, a charity stall, a treasure hunt for children, and performances by groups such as flag-wavers. A proven formula that attracts residents and visitors every year, making San Michele Mondovì a key reference point in the Monregalese event calendar for late September.
