A gourmet walk in the Roero

Somma d'Aj is a food and wine walking tour that brings Sommariva del Bosco to life, a town in the province of Cuneo overlooking the Roero hills in Piedmont. The event takes its name from soma d'aj, the traditional Piedmontese bruschetta made with bread rubbed with garlic, olive oil, and salt: a humble yet iconic dish that tells the story of the rural culture of these lands. The concept is simple and effective: a short circular route through the countryside and the village, explored on foot and marked by various tasting stops where you can sample typical local products.

A journey through nature, history, and cuisine

The trail winds through the surroundings of the town, starting from the Santuario on Via Cavour and crossing corners of the countryside and historic views of Sommariva del Bosco. Along the way, the gastronomic stations turn the walk into a journey of taste: it begins with a welcome soma d'aj, followed by battuta al coltello (hand-cut beef tartare), a trio of appetizers, plin pasta with butter and sage, a selection of three cheeses accompanied by honey, and finally, dessert. Each stop is designed to highlight a food and wine excellence of the Roero and the nearby Langhe.

An event for everyone

Somma d'Aj is an event designed for families, groups of friends, and lovers of good food in the open air. The route, which is not overly difficult, is suitable for walkers of all ages and allows you to discover the area in a slow and convivial way. It is an opportunity to experience the Municipality of Sommariva del Bosco and the Piedmont Region in their most authentic dimension, made of rural landscapes, traditions, and hospitality.

Organization and tradition

The initiative is organized by the Pro Loco of Sommariva del Bosco in collaboration with the municipal administration. Although recently established, Somma d'Aj has quickly become one of the most anticipated spring events, successfully combining the promotion of the Roero territory with the celebration of traditional Piedmontese recipes. Booking is mandatory to ensure participation in the tasting stops.
