About Open Farm Astigiano

Open Farm is an open-house event that invites visitors into the farms of Baldichieri d'Asti and Villafranca d'Asti, in the heart of the Monferrato Astigiano. Enjoy a guided itinerary through livestock farms, vineyards, hazelnut groves, and saffron fields, complete with a lunch prepared using the farms' own produce. It is an authentic way to discover the flavors and hard work of the Piedmontese countryside, far from mass tourism, across two Sundays designed for families, curious travelers, and food and wine enthusiasts.

A day in the Asti countryside

Open Farm is an event dedicated to those who want to get an up-close look at the work of the farms in the Monferrato Astigiano. The initiative takes place across the municipalities of Baldichieri d'Asti and Villafranca d'Asti, two towns in the Province of Asti, Piedmont, nestled among hills covered in vines and hazelnut trees just a few kilometers from the city of Asti.

The concept is simple and direct: open the farm gates to visitors and share, right in the fields, how local products are created. It is a guided tour that alternates outdoor discovery with convivial breaks, all centered around the themes of authenticity and a deep connection to the land.

What you will visit

The route leads participants through diverse and complementary agricultural sites in the Monferrato Astigiano:

  • a free-range black pig farm, where animals live outdoors in accordance with animal welfare standards;
  • vineyards and aging cellars, to understand the cycle of Piedmontese wine;
  • a farm dedicated to saffron cultivation, hazelnut groves, and berries, all iconic products of the Asti hills.

At midday, a lunch prepared with the host farms' products is provided—a perfect opportunity to savor local country cuisine right where the ingredients are grown and raised.

Who is it for?

Open Farm is an experience suitable for families, food and wine lovers, and anyone wishing to spend a different kind of Sunday in touch with nature and the Piedmontese rural world. The participating farms share their history and work, offering a concrete look at the local agricultural supply chain.

The event is organized in collaboration between the municipalities of Baldichieri d'Asti and Villafranca d'Asti and is part of the official event calendar for the Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero territory. Participation requires booking, given the limited number of spots and the logistics of the lunch.
