Farinata baked in wood-fired ovens by the historic fainotti
Farinata is one of the most iconic dishes of Liguria: a thin sheet of chickpea flour, water, oil, and salt, baked in a wood-fired oven in large copper pans until golden and crispy. In Pegli, a district on the western side of Genoa overlooking the sea, its festival has been a tradition for over seventy years.
The heart of the event are the historic fainotti, the masters of farinata who tend the wood-fired ovens along Largo Calasetta, on the seafront. Watching them work, from pouring the liquid batter into the pans to the high-temperature baking, is a spectacle that tells of an ancient craft. The farinata is enjoyed hot, fresh from the oven, perhaps accompanied by other typical Genoese street food dishes.
Unlike many festivals concentrated in a single weekend, the Pegli event is spread over multiple dates between spring and autumn, always with continuous opening hours from 12 PM to 8 PM. It's a way to enjoy farinata in different seasons, taking advantage of a stroll along the seafront and the mild climate of western Liguria.
Organized by Pro Loco Pegli APS as part of the Consorzio Pro Loco Genova, the festival is recognized as an Authentic Ligurian Event. More than just a food festival, it is an event of identity for the neighbourhood, capable of attracting residents and visitors from all over the city.
For 2026, the Sagra della Farinata di Pegli confirms its formula spread throughout the year, with seven events distributed between spring and autumn on Largo Calasetta, along the seafront of Pegli (Genoa). On each date, from 12 PM to 8 PM, the historic fainotti light the wood-fired ovens to prepare farinata according to the traditional recipe.

The events take place with continuous hours from 12 PM to 8 PM. Free admission; farinata and other dishes are purchased at the stands.
