Busalla transforms into a garden to celebrate the Syrup Rose of Valle Scrivia
The Festa delle Rose di Busalla is one of the most characteristic events in the hinterland of Genoa. It is held in Busalla, a municipality in the Valle Scrivia in the province of Genoa, and is dedicated to the Syrup Rose of Valle Scrivia, a highly fragrant variety linked to a centuries-old peasant tradition and protected as a Slow Food presidium, now a candidate for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
During the festival weekend, the town fills with colors and scents. Floral exhibitions and rose-based products animate Piazza Macciò, crafts and aromatic plants fill Largo Italia, typical products line Via San Giorgio, while producers and food artisans gather in Piazza Colombo and Piazza Ferralasco. The gastronomic heart is the Sagra delle Antiche Rose (Festival of Ancient Roses) organized by the Pro Loco, with rose-themed menus served under a dedicated structure.
Among the novelties of recent editions is the inauguration of the new rose garden at Villa Borzino, conceived as a permanent space for the valorization of the flower. The festival also provides an opportunity to present the dossier, prepared by the Municipality with the Chamber of Commerce and the University of Genoa, necessary for the PGI recognition request for the Syrup Rose.
A historic hub between Genoa and Piedmont, Busalla is a lively municipality in the Ligurian hinterland. The Festa delle Rose, recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026, represents its most important identity event, attracting about twenty thousand visitors each year and telling the public about the culture of the flower and the territory.
In 2026, the Festa delle Rose di Busalla reaches its 24th edition, scheduled for Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14. The town transforms into a garden with floral exhibitions, rose-based products, craft and typical product markets distributed across various squares. The Pro Loco organizes the Sagra delle Antiche Rose with themed menus. Key moments include the inauguration of the new rose garden at Villa Borzino (Saturday at 11 AM) and the presentation of the dossier for PGI recognition of the Syrup Rose of Valle Scrivia.
Busalla is served by the train station on the Genoa–Arquata Scrivia/Turin line. By car, it can be reached from the Busalla highway exit (A7). The exhibition areas are concentrated in the town center.
Exhibition areas open Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 7:30 PM. The food festival is open on Saturday for lunch and dinner and on Sunday for lunch.
