About Castagnata Rossiglione

In autumn, the village of Rossiglione, in the heart of the Stura Valley, is perfumed with roasted chestnuts with its Castagnata: boiled and roasted chestnuts, traditional sweets made from chestnut flour, and local wines liven up the village streets, often in conjunction with the large Expo Valle Stura fair and the Sagra della Castagna (Chestnut Festival). A celebration that honors the symbolic fruit of the Beigua Park woods and the peasant tradition of the Genoese hinterland.

The chestnut festival in Valle Stura

The Castagnata di Rossiglione is the autumn festival celebrating the chestnut, the prime fruit of the woods of Valle Stura, in the territory of the Beigua Regional Natural Park, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa. For an entire day, the village comes alive with the aroma of roasted chestnuts and the flavors of tradition.

Chestnuts in every form

The absolute stars are boiled and roasted chestnuts, but the festival also offers traditional sweets made from chestnut flour, typical valley products, and local wines. The stands of the Pro Loco (local tourist board) and producers fill the streets of the historic center, among the tower-houses and low arcades that characterize the upper village of Rossiglione.

An autumn of festivals in Valle Stura

The Castagnata is part of Rossiglione's rich autumn calendar, which also includes the large Expo Valle Stura fair and the historic Sagra della Castagna, spread between late September and October. It's the ideal opportunity to discover the woods, trails, and flavors of the Ligurian Apennines in the most evocative season.
