Spring weeks in the upper Passeier Valley
Psairer Langis—literally "Passeier spring" in the local South Tyrolean dialect—is a widespread festival that accompanies the seasonal awakening in the Passeier Valley (Passeiertal), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. For several weeks, the valley's villages offer a rich calendar of events based on the motto "taste, discover, experience": guided hikes, tastings, gourmet markets, workshops, and cooking demonstrations that showcase the region and its traditions.
Within the festival, a series of events is reserved for the Hinterpasseier, the upper valley that includes the Municipality of Moso in Passiria (Moos in Passeier) and the village of Corvara/Rabenstein. Here, spring arrives later than in the valley floor, offering an untouched landscape of meadows, forests, alpine pastures, and mountain farmsteads. The Hinterpasseier weeks highlight this more authentic and secluded side of the Passeier Valley.
The program combines nature and gastronomy with activities designed for families, hikers, and mountain cuisine enthusiasts:
One of the most distinctive events in the Hinterpasseier is the guided tour of the historic E-Werk Rabenstein hydroelectric plant, one of the oldest in the area. This journey into the power of water shows how it is transformed into energy, blending local history, ingenuity, and tradition. It is a way to discover a little-known technical and cultural heritage, immersed in the nature of the upper Passeier Valley.
Psairer Langis involves the entire Passeier Valley and its villages—from Caines and Rifiano to San Martino and San Leonardo, up to the Hinterpasseier—offering visitors an authentic look at the culture, cuisine, and landscape of this corner of South Tyrol. The offerings change from week to week, focusing on South Tyrolean hospitality and the deep bond between the community and its mountains.
The 2026 edition of Psairer Langis dedicated the weeks from June 8 to 29 to the Hinterpasseier, with events concentrated in the Municipality of Moso in Passiria and the village of Corvara/Rabenstein. The program featured guided hikes between alpine pastures and high-altitude trails, the Alpin Gourmet event with cooking demonstrations at an alpine hut at 1,800 meters, herb-gathering hikes with cooking classes, and tastings of cheeses and mountain specialties.
Among the most characteristic offerings was the guided tour of the historic E-Werk Rabenstein hydroelectric plant, dedicated to the power of water and the valley's technical heritage. The overall festival in the Passeier Valley was held between April and June in various villages, with the Hinterpasseier weeks closing the spring calendar.
Moso in Passiria (Moos in Passeier) is located in the upper Passeier Valley, north of Merano. By car, it can be reached from the A22 motorway (Bolzano Sud exit) by continuing towards Merano and following the SS44 and SS44bis roads of the Passeier Valley. The nearest train station is in Merano, which is connected to Moso by local bus lines.
Many excursions and tastings require booking through the Passeier Valley Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Passeiertal), tel. +39 0473 656188, [email protected]. The detailed program with dates, meeting points, and costs for individual events is available on the official website www.passeiertal.it.
Bring clothing and footwear suitable for the mountains: in the upper valley, spring temperatures can be cool. Check in advance for any participation fees for guided hikes and cooking classes.
