The alpine pasture festival on the Rinneralm in the Racines-Giovo hiking area
The Rinneralmfest is a classic alpine pasture festival (Almfest) that brings the Rinneralm to life—a mountain hut and restaurant located at an altitude of 1,892 meters in the Racines-Giovo (Ratschings-Jaufen) hiking area. The event takes place in the municipality of Racines (Ratschings), in the province of Bolzano, the heart of the South Tyrolean Wipptal, and is one of the most beloved summer events in the valley.
For an entire day, the alpine pasture transforms into a festive hub: live music accompanies guests as they enjoy South Tyrolean mountain cuisine, ranging from hearty traditional peasant dishes to sweet delicacies. The atmosphere is that of authentic South Tyrolean Almromantik: outdoor tables, panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, and hours of conviviality amidst the imposing alpine scenery.
The strength of the Rinneralmfest is its accessibility: the ascent to the pasture is made easy by the Racines-Giovo cable car, which quickly takes you from the valley station to the heights, where you continue along the alpine pasture trail (Ratschinger Almenweg) to the Rinneralm. This makes the festival suitable for families and those who are not expert hikers, allowing everyone to enjoy the high mountains without long treks.
Alpine pasture festivals are a defining element of the alpine culture of Alto Adige/Südtirol: they represent the bond between valley communities and high-altitude pastures, where for centuries cattle have grazed and alpine cheese has been produced. The municipality of Racines, with its three valleys and vast hiking area, preserves this tradition and shares it with visitors in a convivial and welcoming way. The Rinneralmfest is the ideal opportunity to discover this heritage, combining mountain hiking with the pleasure of good food and folk music.
The Rinneralmfest 2026 takes place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Rinneralm / Malga Rinner at an altitude of 1,892 meters, in the Racines-Giovo hiking area, in the municipality of Racines (BZ).
The day features live music and a rich assortment of culinary specialties, from hearty alpine dishes to sweet treats. The ascent to the pasture is made easy by the Racines-Giovo cable car, making the festival accessible even to those who are not expert hikers. An opportunity to spend convivial hours amidst the alpine scenery of the Wipptal.
You can reach Racines (Ratschings) by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, taking the Vipiteno/Sterzing exit and continuing towards the Racines Valley. From there, ascend to the Rinneralm using the Racines-Giovo cable car (valley station in Racines di Dentro/Innerratschings) followed by a short walk along the alpine trail.
The festivities run approximately from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Food and drinks are available for purchase at the mountain hut; a ticket is required for the cable car ascent.
We recommend dressing in layers and wearing comfortable shoes: you are at nearly 1,900 meters, where the weather can change quickly. For information: Racines Tourist Office, tel. +39 0472 760608.
