The monthly farmers' market in the heart of Scena, featuring farm-fresh produce and local handicrafts
The Schenner Dorfmarktl is a monthly farmers' market that brings Raiffeisen Square (Raiffeisenplatz) to life in the center of Scena/Schenna. This stunning hillside village overlooks Merano in the heart of the Burgraviato region of South Tyrol. On market mornings, the square fills with fragrant stalls: it is the perfect opportunity to shop for local, zero-mile products and meet the farmers and artisans of the area in person.
The stars of the show are the farm products from the Scena area, offered for tasting and sale directly by the producers: cheeses, wine, honey, Krapfen (traditional farm-style fritters), and many other genuine specialties. Alongside the food stalls, you will find local handicrafts, featuring wooden objects, decorations, and small handmade creations.
Exhibitors animating the market include local producers such as Bachlerhof (Bauernkrapfen, Tirtlen, bread, Kaminwurzen), Holzilas (artistic wood carvings, souvenirs, and decorations), Lechnerhof (jams, fruit and herb syrups, speck, fir honey), and local beekeepers like Spiess Hans with his honey.
The Dorfmarktl is typically held on the second Thursday of every month, during the morning, from spring through autumn. It is a small, authentic market designed for both the residents of Scena and guests vacationing in the Merano area: a simple way to discover the flavors and traditions of a mountain community, set among the farms, vineyards, and orchards that define the local landscape.
Scena/Schenna is one of the most beloved destinations in the Merano area, known for its mild climate, scenic trails, and vibrant farming traditions. The market in Raiffeisen Square fits perfectly into this setting as a meeting point between those who cultivate the land and those who wish to take home a piece of South Tyrolean authenticity. Admission is free, and the square is easily accessible on foot from the village center.
The 2026 edition of the Schenner Dorfmarktl consists of a series of monthly events in the center of Scena/Schenna, at Raiffeisen Square, taking place throughout the season from April to November. On each market morning, local farm producers bring their typical products — cheeses, wine, honey, Krapfen, and preserves — for tasting and direct sale, alongside local wooden handicrafts and small handmade creations.
Exhibitors expected this year include Bachlerhof, Holzilas, Lechnerhof, and local beekeepers. Admission is free, and the market takes place during the morning hours.
