Five summer Sundays of tradition, music, and local flavors in the Upper Passeier Valley
Hinterpasseier erleben (literally "Experience the Upper Passeier Valley") is a series of five summer Sundays that, between June and September, rotate through the small mountain villages of the municipality of Moso in Passiria (Moos in Passeier), in the Province of Bolzano, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region. The initiative involves the hamlets of the Hinterpasseier — Moso, Corvara/Rabenstein, Stulles/Stuls, Plata/Platt, and Plan/Pfelders — and invites residents and guests to discover the cultural diversity and living traditions of this remote and authentic part of the valley.
The heart of every Sunday is the Frühschoppen, the typical midday aperitif of the German-speaking area. The day begins with a solemn mass held in the morning (usually around 9:00-10:00 AM); following this, from 10:30-11:00 AM, the festivities kick off in front of the fire station or in the village square. Local brass bands — the Musikkapelle of Moso, the Rabenstein band, and other valley ensembles — accompany the gathering with folk music concerts, while Schuhplattler groups (such as the Stuller Schuhplattler) perform traditional Tyrolean dances.
The culinary side is managed by local associations. The volunteer firefighters (Freiwillige Feuerwehr) serve specialties from the Passeier Valley, while the local farmers (Bäuerinnen) set up a small market with homemade sweets, jams, preserves, and coffee. It is the perfect opportunity to taste dumplings, fritters, and South Tyrolean farmhouse dishes in a genuine and convivial atmosphere.
Each edition rotates through the hamlets of the Upper Passeier Valley, giving each community the chance to welcome visitors and showcase its identity. This traveling format allows you to discover, Sunday by Sunday, mountain corners that are otherwise rarely visited, immersed in the alpine landscape of the Texel Group Nature Park and the Passeier Alps.
An event that tells the story of the most authentic soul of Trentino-Alto Adige, where tradition is not just a postcard cliché, but the daily life of the community.
In 2026, the Hinterpasseier erleben series will once again animate five summer Sundays in the hamlets of the municipality of Moso in Passiria. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the event will take place in Corvara/Rabenstein: after mass, the Frühschoppen continues from 10:30 AM with a concert by the Rabenstein band and performances by the Stuller Schuhplattler, while volunteer firefighters serve food and drinks. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, it will be the turn of Stulles/Stuls, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the fire station. Other Sundays complete the calendar in the hamlets of Moso, Plata, and Plan.
Free admission. Information: Passeier Valley Tourist Office, tel. +39 0473 656188.
Moso in Passiria can be reached from Merano by traveling up the Passeier Valley (SS44) towards the Timmelsjoch (Passo del Rombo). The hamlets of the Upper Passeier Valley are served by SASA/Südtirolmobil buses on lines 239, 240, and 241 (stops: "Rabenstein, Oberrabenstein", "Moos, Dorf", etc.).
Admission is free. Each Sunday event typically runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Comfortable mountain-appropriate clothing is recommended.
