Summer farmers' craft market in Velloi, above Lagundo
The Summer Marktl am Hoferhof is a delightful summer market celebrating rural craftsmanship. It brings the Hoferhof farm to life during summer evenings in the village of Velloi/Vellau, a mountain hamlet located at approximately 970 meters above sea level in the municipality of Lagundo/Algund, near Merano, in South Tyrol. The event is hosted at a farm certified by the Red Rooster (Roter Hahn) network, which promotes authentic South Tyrolean rural crafts.
The market brings together regional artisans offering unique, entirely handmade pieces, ranging from meticulously crafted small items to textile creations and home decor. The Hoferhof is particularly renowned for its South Tyrolean sheep's wool products—including cushions, blankets, rugs, and crochet items—made from the wool of the mountain sheep raised on the farm. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover authentic craftsmanship, far removed from mass production, and to chat directly with the makers.
The culinary side of the event is managed by the Velloi Volunteer Fire Brigade, who run a stand serving local gastronomic specialties. Surrounded by orchards, meadows, and panoramic views of the Merano basin and the peaks of the Texel Group, the market offers a relaxed, social atmosphere perfect for families and hikers.
The Summer Marktl takes place on three Saturdays between June and August, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. For the 2026 edition, the dates are June 14, July 12, and August 9. The market is cancelled in case of bad weather.
Velloi/Vellau can be reached by car or via the Lagundo–Velloi chairlift, which climbs from Algund through vineyards and forests. There are also hiking trails connecting the village to the valley floor. Visitors arriving by car will find parking near the Velloi bus stop, about a 10-minute walk from the farm; the last urban bus returning to Lagundo departs at 10:00 PM.
In 2026, the Summer Marktl am Hoferhof returns with three evening events at the Hoferhof farm in Velloi/Vellau (Municipality of Lagundo, South Tyrol): Saturday, June 14, Saturday, July 12, and Saturday, August 9, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Each evening, the market brings together regional exhibitors with handmade artisanal creations—including the typical South Tyrolean sheep's wool products of the Hoferhof—while the Velloi Volunteer Fire Brigade serves local gastronomic specialties. Free admission; the market is cancelled in case of bad weather. We recommend taking the Lagundo–Velloi chairlift or parking at the bus stop (about a 10-minute walk).
