The potato festival of Sfruz, in the Val di Non
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Potato Festival is the most important and beloved event in the small municipality of Sfruz, a mountain village in the Val di Non, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every year, at the end of August, the local Pro Loco transforms the historic town center into a grand celebration dedicated to the tuber that has been the heart of local agriculture for over two centuries.
The first edition of the festival dates back to 1985, when the community decided to celebrate the crop that has defined the area for generations. Grown at an altitude of over one thousand meters, the Sfruz potato owes its quality and authentic flavor to the mineral-rich soil and local spring water. It is no coincidence that Sfruz has been known for over two hundred years as "the village of the potato".
The undisputed star of the table is the tortel di patate, the traditional Trentino specialty prepared according to the local recipe and served during the festival's typical lunches and dinners. Alongside it, stalls offer numerous dishes based on the Sfruz potato, while the farmers' market showcases typical products from the Val di Non region.
The program combines food, wine, and entertainment: concerts and DJ sets liven up the town squares, while the traditional green volley tournament engages young people and enthusiasts in a fun-filled challenge. There is no shortage of entertainment and workshops for children, making the event suitable for the whole family. A particularly anticipated moment is the official judging of the tortel di patate, with the participation of the brotherhood dedicated to this specialty.
The Potato Festival is also the perfect opportunity to visit Sfruz and its surroundings: guided walks through the village, glimpses of historical and cultural interest, and the genuine hospitality of a mountain community. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Sfruz, which involves the entire village in welcoming visitors from all over Trentino.
The Sfruz Potato Festival, a historic event in the Val di Non organized by the Pro Loco, is traditionally held on the last weekend of August. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced. As is customary, the event is expected to feature tastings of tortel di patate, a farmers' market with local products, live music, a green volley tournament, and children's entertainment. This page will be updated with dates and details as soon as the Pro Loco of Sfruz publishes the program.
Sfruz is located on the Sfruz Plateau, in the Val di Non, about 40 km from Trento. By car, it can be reached via the SS43 road of the Val di Non, heading up towards the plateau; the village is just a few kilometers from Coredo and Smarano.
Admission to the event is free. The tortel di patate and other local dishes can be enjoyed at the food stalls set up by the Pro Loco in the town center.
