A journey into Groppello di Revò

Emozioni di Groppello is a widespread wine tourism experience that takes place every autumn in the Municipality of Novella, in the heart of Val di Non, in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. This is not just a simple tasting, but a true journey of discovery into the Groppello di Revò, a rare and precious native grape variety, currently cultivated on only a few hectares along the shores of Lake Santa Giustina.

The name of the variety comes from the Trentino term grop, meaning "knot," referring to the tight and compact cluster that characterizes it. Present in the area since the end of the 16th century, this wine even fascinated the Habsburg court in Vienna. The experience offers four different interpretations of Groppello, distributed among three wineries and one distillery in the villages of Revò and Romallo, now hamlets of the Municipality of Novella.

The stages of the experience

Each winery offers a different way to experience the Groppello and the valley's territory:

• Cantina El Zeremia: a walk among apple orchards and vineyards overlooking Lake Santa Giustina, discovering the century-old vineyard, with a cellar tour and a final tasting paired with local products.
• Cantina LasteRosse: an immersive tasting in the intimate rooms of the Romallo cellar, where Silvia recounts the scents of the wine and the woods, the mineral taste of the rock, and the flavors of mountain cheeses.
• Cantina Maso Sperdossi: an immersion in the timeless atmosphere of the historic cellar, where you learn to prepare the famous tortèl di patate, which is then tasted together with the Groppello and local cured meats and cheeses.
• Distilleria Rossi d'Anaunia: the family of master distillers guides visitors through a sensory laboratory to discover the Groppello grappa.

Heroic mountain viticulture

The cultivation of Groppello in Novella is an example of heroic viticulture: the vineyards climb steep slopes reaching 700 meters in altitude, on red rock terrain overlooking Lake Santa Giustina. The work is almost entirely manual, with very low yields but superior quality. Initiatives such as the adoption of a vine row and the "You are Groppello" movement testify to the winemakers' commitment to safeguarding this heritage, threatened in recent decades by the advance of intensive apple farming in Val di Non.

Practical information

Each experience lasts about two hours and is also designed for families, with children from 3 years old. Visits are possible even in case of rain. Comfortable clothing with trekking shoes is recommended. Booking is mandatory by 5:00 PM the previous day, through the Val di Non Tourist Board.
