The autumn festival celebrating the local pasqualora, a Slow Food Presidium, in the medieval village at the foot of the castle

The Sausage Festival is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events in the Termini Imerese district and the entire Palermo metropolitan area. It takes place every October in the historic center of Caccamo (Province of Palermo, Sicily), a medieval village dominated by one of the island's most imposing castles. For two days, the town transforms into a grand culinary trail where food and wine traditions intertwine with culture, music, and historical re-enactments.
The absolute star is the pasqualora caccamese, a dry-cured sausage recognized as a Slow Food product of Sicily. Its name tells an ancient story: it originated from the practice of using specific cuts of pork slaughtered during the Easter period, which were then stuffed and consumed in the following months. Prepared with prime cuts of pork and seasoned with wild fennel seeds, salt, and pepper, it offers a unique taste and aroma. During the festival, numerous charcoal grilling stations set up along the village streets allow visitors to taste it alongside other local specialties.
The festival is about more than just gastronomy. Between Via Termitana, Porta Euracea, and the squares of the historic center, you will find historical pageants, performances by folk groups, the "Cittร di Caccamo" Flag-wavers, and drummers in period costumes. Various entertainment areas host storytellers, musicians, DJ sets, and street performers, while traditional games, animation, and children's dances are organized for the little ones. The medieval Castle, the Cathedral, and historic churches remain open for guided tours, offering a chance to discover the village's artistic heritage.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Caccamo "Giorgio Ponte" APS in collaboration with A.M.A. Caccamo (Butchers' Association) and ConfArtigianato, with the support of the Municipality of Caccamo. Admission to the festival and all events is free: you only pay for what you choose to eat and drink at the food stalls. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a trip to one of Sicily's most fascinating medieval villages with the pleasure of fine dining.
The 2026 edition of the Caccamo Sausage Festival is expected in October, continuing the tradition that brings the celebration of the pasqualora caccamese to town every autumn. At the moment, the organizers have not yet released the exact dates or the detailed program: the official website only anticipates that the 2026 program will be published soon.
Based on previous editions, you can expect two days of festivities through the streets of the historic center, with charcoal grilling stations for sausage tasting, historical pageants, folk groups, flag-wavers, guided tours of the castle, and family entertainment. To stay updated on the final dates and line-up, it is best to follow the official channels of the Pro Loco Caccamo and the Municipality.
Caccamo is located about 45 km from Palermo. By car: A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, take the Caccamo-Termini Imerese exit, then follow the provincial road to Caccamo. By train: Termini Imerese station on the Palermo-Messina line, then take a bus or taxi to Caccamo (about 15 km).
Admission to all areas and shows is free. You only pay for consumption at the food stalls (tasting of pasqualora and local products).
The historic center is hilly with cobblestone streets: wear comfortable shoes. Take advantage of the guided tours of the castle and churches, which are open during the event. Parking is available in areas outside the historic center.
