About Olive Oil and Mandorla Festival

Every November, Montemaggiore Belsito, in the heart of the Palermo metropolitan area, celebrates two local treasures: extra virgin olive oil pressed from centuries-old trees and the prized Mandorla Pizzuta, known for its unique 'crow's beak' shape. For an entire weekend, Piazza Roma and the historic center come alive with tastings, live cooking demonstrations, guided tours of the Civic Museum and local churches, oil mill visits, conferences, and vibrant folk music. An authentic celebration of taste, tradition, and community.

A festival dedicated to green gold and white blossoms

The Olive Oil and Mandorla Pizzuta Festival is one of the most cherished food and wine events of the autumn in the hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Palermo. Held in Montemaggiore Belsito, a small town nestled in the Sicani hills of Sicily, it honors two iconic local products: the extra virgin olive oil, with its amber-yellow hues and fragrant flavor, and the Mandorla Pizzuta, an indigenous almond variety with an intense aroma and a distinctive crow's beak shape.

Three days of taste, culture, and tradition

Throughout the weekend, the town center—with Piazza Roma as its beating heart—transforms into a journey of flavors and experiences. Visitors can enjoy guided tastings of oil and almonds, watch oil production firsthand at the mill, participate in live cooking demonstrations featuring traditional dishes, and discover local sweets like the famous cubaita muntimajurisi and fresh bread drizzled with new oil.

Culture, music, and folklore

The festival is also an opportunity to rediscover the town's heritage: during the event, the Giovanna Bellomo Civic Museum and the historic churches of Sant'Agata, Santissimo Crocifisso, and delle Grazie open their doors. The squares fill with music from street bands, folk groups, drummers, and flag-wavers from across the Madonie and Palermo areas, while conferences on olive and almond cultivation explore the link between agriculture, identity, and the future of the region.

A community event

Organized by the youth association OdV Rigenerha in collaboration with the Municipality of Montemaggiore Belsito, the Youth Council, and the Business Association, the festival aims to promote local agricultural wealth, support regional producers, and offer visitors an authentic experience of Sicilian culture. With motorcycle rallies, nature excursions, and educational activities for schools, the event engages the entire community every year.
