Sicilian street food and the Sfincione Festival during the Madonna del Rosario celebrations
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Vivi Ficarazzi is the event that, at the beginning of October, transforms the center of Ficarazzi, a town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, into a massive open-air street food village. Organized by the Municipality of Ficarazzi, the event coincides with the celebrations for the Madonna del Rosario, whose feast day falls on October 7th, blending religious devotion with the convivial spirit that has always defined the local community.
The beating heart of the event is the Sfincione di Ficarazzi Festival, dedicated to one of the most beloved versions of Sicilian street food. The local sfincione is renowned for its red variant, prepared traditionally with tomato, onion, salted anchovies, and tuma cheese, freshly baked by the town's master bakers. Alongside the sfincione, stalls offer a culinary journey through gastronomic delights, local products, traditional dishes, and offerings from Sicilian gelato shops and pastry makers.
The Vivi Ficarazzi program is about more than just tasting: along Via Sacerdote Napoleone and Via Marco Polo, you will find cooking shows, gastronomic talks, DJ sets, and live performances. Recent editions have featured cooking demonstrations by local chefs, dance music evenings, and comedy shows with Sicilian performers, creating a festive atmosphere that brings together families, young people, and visitors from neighboring towns.
The days of Vivi Ficarazzi coincide with the most heartfelt moment of local devotion: the solemn Eucharistic celebration and the procession of the Madonna del Rosario painting through the town streets, a tradition rooted in the memory of the Battle of Lepanto. The celebrations often conclude with a fireworks display, sealing a weekend where the sacred and the profane, taste and folklore, intertwine in the heart of the Province of Palermo.
For 2026, Ficarazzi is once again preparing to renew the appointment with Vivi Ficarazzi and the Sfincione Festival, as part of the early October Madonna del Rosario celebrations. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced and the detailed program has not been published. However, the organizers have confirmed the continuity of the event, anticipating that the calendar will be released closer to the festival. This page will be updated as soon as official dates, line-ups, and details become available.
Ficarazzi is located a few kilometers east of Palermo, along the Tyrrhenian coast. By car, it can be reached via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Bagheria exit) or the SS113 road. By train, the Ficarazzi station is served by the Palermo-Messina line. The reference airport is Palermo Falcone-Borsellino.
The event traditionally takes place during the first weekend of October, coinciding with the Madonna del Rosario feast.
Access to the street food area is free; tastings are paid for directly at the individual stalls.
