The Wild-Wochenende in Racines

The Wild-Wochenende, or Game Meat Weekend, is an autumn culinary event held in the Ratschings-Jaufen hiking area, in the municipality of Racines/Ratschings, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol, Trentino-Alto Adige region). For an entire weekend, the alpine pastures and mountain huts accessible via the modern Ratschings-Jaufen cable car offer their guests tasty game meat dishes, the stars of seasonal cuisine when the forests turn into autumn colors.

A weekend of flavor at high altitude

The event was created as an opportunity to combine high-altitude hiking with the pleasure of traditional South Tyrolean cuisine. By taking the cable car, you reach the area's alpine huts — including the Kalcheralm, Rinneralm, Wasserfalleralm, and Ratschingser Stub'n — where hosts prepare specialties based on venison, roe deer, and other game, accompanied by seasonal side dishes, dumplings, and traditional desserts. The atmosphere is intimate and convivial, typical of mountain cabins, with views of the Stubai Alps peaks.

Hiking and nature

The Wild-Wochenende is designed for those who love to walk: numerous trails start from the cable car mountain stations, connecting the various huts and allowing you to alternate walks through the autumn foliage with delicious stops. The Racines area, divided into the three valleys of Val Giovo, Val Ridanna, and Val di Racines, is framed by the Stubai Alps and offers open panoramas of the mountains bordering Austria.
