The Vipiteno Farmers' Market

The Sterzinger Bauernmarkt, or Vipiteno Farmers' Market, is the weekly event that brings the authentic products of South Tyrolean farms to the historic center of Vipiteno (Sterzing), in the Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. For over a decade, every Friday morning from April to late October, farmers' stalls have enlivened the famous Piazza Città (Stadtplatz), the medieval square dominated by the Twelve Tower, the symbol of Italy's northernmost town.

What to find at the market

The selection reflects the agricultural excellence of the Upper Isarco Valley and the Wipptal region. At the stalls, you can purchase directly from the producers:

• Speck and Kaminwurzen, traditional South Tyrolean smoked meats;
• Fresh and smoked trout from local streams;
• Alpine cheeses and yogurt specialties;
• Homemade bread and traditional Krapfen and Tirtler pastries prepared by local farmers;
• Honey, eggs, aromatic herbs, artisanal juices, and seasonal vegetables;
• Organic wines from the region.

A local experience

More than just a market, the Bauernmarkt is a social hub: residents and visitors gather among the stalls for their weekly shopping and a chat, immersed in the atmosphere of the porticoes and frescoed facades of the historic center. The setting is Vipiteno, a medieval alpine village on the border with Austria, appreciated for its intact urban fabric and proximity to the Racines and Ridanna valleys.

When and where

The market takes place every Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in Piazza Città in Vipiteno, throughout the warmer months from April to October. Admission is free, and the event returns every week, weather permitting.
