The farmers' market on the sunny plateau of Terento, in the Puster Valley
The Bauernmarkt in Terenten is the recurring farmers' market held in Terento, a charming village nestled on a sunny plateau above the Puster Valley at an altitude of approximately 1,210 meters in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). Thanks to its nearly 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, Terento is known as the "sun village," providing an ideal setting for an open-air market where local producers bring the best of their land to the square.
The market takes place on the Dorfplatz, the village's central square, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is held multiple times throughout the season, with monthly dates between spring and autumn, serving as a meeting point for locals, hikers, and tourists visiting the Gitschberg-Jochtal holiday area and the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) region.
The hallmark of the Bauernmarkt is its authenticity: every stall is managed directly by the farmer or artisan who created the goods. Products on offer include:
It is the perfect opportunity to stock up on South Tyrolean specialties, take home an authentic souvenir, and chat with the producers, who are often happy to share the stories behind their crafts.
Organized by the Tourismusverein Terenten (the local tourism association), the Bauernmarkt in Terenten promotes mountain agriculture and the traditional crafts of the Puster Valley. Visiting the market means supporting the small-scale farms of the plateau and experiencing the genuine atmosphere of an alpine village, surrounded by the mountains of the Terento region and its numerous hamlets scattered across the sunny slopes.
The 2026 edition of the Bauernmarkt in Terenten features several market days on the Dorfplatz of Terento, in the Puster Valley (Bolzano), from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Each event brings together local producers with typical mountain products: honey, wine, fruit juices, speck, spirits, alpine cheeses, felt slippers, and turned wood objects.
The market maintains its authentic format, with stalls managed directly by those who farm, raise, or produce the goods, and is designed for both residents and guests of the Gitschberg-Jochtal holiday area and the Plan de Corones region.
