The international wine fair of Piedmont in the heart of Alba
Every spring, between late April and early May, the historic center of Alba, in the heart of the Langhe (Cuneo Province, Piedmont), turns into Italy's largest open-air wine cellar. Vinum is the international wine fair of Piedmont: for five days, the squares, courtyards, and historic palaces of the 'City of the Truffle' host over 200 producers and hundreds of labels, creating a journey that blends tasting, storytelling, and direct encounters with winemakers.
The heart of the event lies in the tasting stands, distributed across some of Alba's most picturesque locations. Each area is dedicated to a specific territory or wine type:
The event is coordinated by the Piedmontese Protection Consortia, ranging from the Barolo Barbaresco Protection Consortium to the Barbera d'Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium, the Roero Consortium, the Alta Langa Consortium, and the Vermouth di Torino and Grappa Consortia.
Vinum is more than just tasting. The program is enriched with experiences spread throughout the region:
Officially recognized as an International Fair, Vinum attracts a young, cosmopolitan audience: a significant portion of visitors comes from abroad, representing dozens of countries, with the majority under 35. In recent years, the event has also focused on sustainability, hosting an international forum dedicated to ESG strategies in the wine world and conferences on the relationship between viticulture and climate change. Visiting Vinum is also the perfect way to discover Alba and the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato wine landscape, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Alba is accessible by car via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Alba exit) or the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene exit). By train, Alba station is connected to Turin and Asti; during the event, shuttle services and dedicated parking areas are available on the outskirts of the historic center.
Access to tasting areas is granted via a pass: the full pass includes a glass with a holder, a disposable breathalyzer, ten tastings, and discount vouchers. A lounge coupon with a reduced number of tastings is also available. Online pre-sale allows for early-bird discounts on passes.
Tasting areas are open from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the event.
Book limited-capacity experiences (dinners at the Castle of Roddi, cooking classes, winery tours) well in advance, as they often sell out. Wear comfortable shoes to navigate the squares of the historic center.
