The classical music festival of the Langhe and Roero
The Alba Music Festival is one of the most significant classical music events in Piedmont. Established in 2004, it has been enlivening the town of Alba, in the Province of Cuneo, for over two decades, transforming local churches, theaters, castles, and wine cellars in the Langhe and Roero regions into exceptional concert halls. The artistic direction is led by flutist Giuseppe Nova, while the international Italy&USA section is co-directed by American trumpeter Jeffrey Silberschlag.
The festival has earned the nickname 'the little Spoleto of Piedmont' from the newspaper la Repubblica. Over the past twenty years, it has hosted hundreds of artists from more than twenty nations, featuring orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists, and absolute world premieres. The event attracts over 20,000 attendees annually and has received international recognition, including the prestigious US Governor's Award, with the support of the Piedmont Region.
The calendar, which spans from March to August, is divided into several series that give the festival a truly unique scope:
Concerts are held in the most evocative locations in and around Alba: the Church of San Domenico, the Fondazione Ferrero auditorium, the Church of San Giuseppe, the Sala Beppe Fenoglio, the Temple of San Paolo, the Cathedral, and the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the summer, the music reaches villages and wine cellars across the hills, from the gardens of the Royal Castle of Verduno to the Alta Langa.
What makes the Alba Music Festival special is its inseparable bond with the land: classical music enters into a dialogue with the vineyard landscape of the Langhe, its history, and its food and wine culture. For those visiting Alba, the festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the city of truffles and Barolo with an exceptional soundtrack.
The 23rd edition of the Alba Music Festival offers a journey through creativity and identity, with a kaleidoscope of emotions and high culture. The festival is divided into several series from March to August: Bacco&Orfeo (March 29 - May 3), Italy&USA (May 22 - June 2), Musica in Cascina (June 6, 13, 20, 27), and Suoni dalle Colline di Langhe e Roero (July - August 10). Among the most anticipated moments are the performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and a long summer section of concerts held among the castles, vineyards, and villages of the Langhe and Roero.
Opening at the Fondazione Ferrero with Georgian violinist Elisso Gogibedashwili and Indonesian pianist Victoria Audrey Sarasvathi.
