The marathon through the UNESCO World Heritage vineyards of the Langhe
The Barbaresco and Alba White Truffle Ecomarathon is one of the most fascinating road and trail races in Piedmont. Organized by A.S.D. Triangolo Sport Langhe Monferrato Roero, it takes place every autumn, starting and finishing in the center of Alba, at the foot of the Cathedral, and winds through the Barbaresco vineyards in a hilly landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The course crosses the municipalities of Alba, Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe, in the province of Cuneo. Runners traverse the Tanaro River Park, the Fenoglio trails, the Barbaresco hills with their famous panoramic tower, the ancient village of Neive, and the evocative Rocche dei Sette Fratelli in Treiso. Nine refreshment stations are set up along the route, including a special one in Barbaresco where athletes are offered a glass of the prestigious local wine.
The event is more than just a race; it is a true celebration of the region. At the end of the run, all participants are served an excellent lunch featuring Piedmontese specialties. The Ecomarathon also coincides with the International Alba White Truffle Fair, the gastronomic event that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world to the capital of the Langhe every autumn, combining sport, culture, great wines, and haute cuisine.
Over the years, the Ecomarathon has grown into a significant fixture on the Italian running calendar, with an ever-increasing number of Italian and international athletes. Live streaming, technical coverage, and the warm welcome from the Langhe locals make every edition a memorable experience, showcasing one of Italy's most beautiful and delicious regions.
The seventeenth edition of the Barbaresco and Alba White Truffle Ecomarathon will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with the start and finish in the heart of Alba, at the foot of the Cathedral. The route passes through Alba, Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso, among the UNESCO World Heritage vineyards of the Langhe.
The 2026 edition hosts the Italian Absolute and Master Long Trail Championships, awarded by the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL), with the introduction of a new 50 km long course in addition to the 42 km marathon, the 21 km half-marathon, the relay, and the non-competitive walks.
The highlight of the 2026 edition is the hosting of the Italian Absolute and Master Long Trail Championships on the UNESCO Langhe trails, featuring the new 50 km course. The race confirms its unique format combining sport, wine, and truffles, coinciding with the International Alba White Truffle Fair.
Alba can be reached by car via the A33 Cuneo-Asti (Alba exit) or the A6 Turin-Savona (Marene exit), or by train to the Alba station on the Turin-Bra-Alba line. The start and finish are in the city center, in Piazza Duomo.
