From tripe to cacciucco: three nights of Tuscan cuisine in La California
The Tuscany at the Table Festival is the gastronomic event that brings La California to life every June. This bustling village in the municipality of Bibbona, in the Province of Livorno, lies along the famous Etruscan Coast. The event takes place at the Via Leonardo da Vinci Fairgrounds, just a stone's throw from Piazza Galileiโa large, well-equipped space where tables are set up every evening for open-air dining. It is one of those genuine festivals, organized by local volunteers, that showcases the best of Tuscany: the kind experienced at the table, in good company, under the summer sky.
The event's motto, "From tripe to cacciucco," perfectly sums up the spirit of the menu: a journey through the most iconic traditional dishes, from land to sea. The kitchen features specialties like Chianina beef, wild boar dishes typical of the Maremma hinterland, and fried seafood, a tribute to the nearby Livorno coast. Naturally, there is no shortage of tripe and cacciucco, the symbol of the maritime cuisine of this part of Tuscany. Everything is washed down with local wines in an informal setting where great taste is always at home.
The Tuscany at the Table Festival is not just about food: after dinner, the party continues with live music and the unmissable dance evenings, a tradition dear to Tuscan village festivals. Orchestras and bands take turns on stage, keeping guests of all ages dancing until late in a convivial, family-friendly atmosphere that is the true heart of the event.
La California owes its curious name to Count Leonetto Cipriani, an honorary consul in San Francisco in the 19th century who frequently traveled between the Mediterranean and California. Today, it is a lively center of about a thousand inhabitants between Cecina and Marina de Bibbona, in an ideal position for those who want to combine the festival with a seaside holiday. The historic village of Bibbona, of Etruscan origin, houses the evocative 11th-century Pieve di Sant'Ilario, while the coast offers pine forests, beaches, and the famous traditional Livorno fish cuisine. Attending the Tuscany at the Table Festival means savoring an authentic piece of this territory.
The 2026 Tuscany at the Table Festival takes place from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the La California Fairgrounds, on Via Leonardo da Vinci, in the village of Bibbona (LI). The event, organized by Calcio Palazzi, offers Tuscan land and sea cuisine every evening and concludes with music and dancing.

By car: from the SS1 Aurelia, take the Bibbona / La California exit. The village is easily reachable from Cecina (a few minutes away) and the coast. By train: Cecina station on the Pisa-Rome line, then continue by car or bus towards La California.
The evenings begin with the opening of the food stands; live music is scheduled around 9:30 PM. We recommend arriving a little early to secure a table.
