The Suvereto Wild Boar Festival is a historic fixture on the Tuscan gastronomic calendar, drawing thousands of visitors to the heart of Val di Cornia every year. Now in its 57th edition in 2025, the event celebrates the wild boar, the quintessential symbol of Maremma cuisine, in an exceptional setting: the medieval village of Suvereto, one of the most charming in the province of Livorno and officially listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.
Narrow cobblestone streets, the Aldobrandesca Fortress, and the 13th-century Town Hall provide a natural stage for the festival. For several days, Suvereto's historic center fills with scents, sounds, and colors: exhibition stands and craft displays open in the morning, while food stalls begin serving at noon. The large fire in the square, where polenta and meat are grilled, is the beating heart of the event.
The absolute star is wild boar meat, served in many traditional preparations: from sausages to polenta with rich ragรน, and from pasta dishes to rustic main courses, all paired with local wines, especially the reds of the Etruscan Coast. The event also highlights local food and wine specialties through meetings and conferences dedicated to the culinary heritage of Val di Cornia.
The festival is about more than just food. The alleys come alive with folk music, roaming bands, street performers, and historical re-enactments featuring costumed participants. Guided tours of the historic center, artisan demonstrations, and workshops for children round out a program designed for the whole family, creating a convivial atmosphere that blends taste, tradition, and community life.
Organized by the Ente Valorizzazione Suvereto in collaboration with the Municipality of Suvereto, the festival is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of the Tuscan coast, just a few kilometers from the sea and hills covered in vineyards and olive groves. The event confirms Suvereto as one of the capitals of game meat and authentic Maremma flavors in Tuscany.
For 2026, the Suvereto Wild Boar Festival is expected to renew its autumn appointment dedicated to Maremma game meat, with food stalls, polenta and grilled meats, craft markets, and folk music in the alleys of the historic center. The scheduled dates (November 29 - December 8, 2026) have not yet been made official and the detailed program has not been published. It is recommended to consult the official channels of the Ente Valorizzazione Suvereto and the Municipality of Suvereto for confirmation of dates, times, and events.
By car: Take the Venturina-Suvereto exit from the SS1 Aurelia, then follow signs for the historic center (approx. 10 km from the coast). By train: Campiglia Marittima station on the Rome-Genoa line, then bus or taxi to Suvereto. By plane: Pisa and Florence airports, about 1.5 hours away by car.
Free entry to the village. Exhibition and craft stalls open from 10:00 AM; food stalls from 12:00 PM. Indoor restaurant service available in the historic center in the evenings. Food and drinks are paid for according to the stalls' price lists.
Wear comfortable shoes for the village's cobblestone streets. We recommend arriving early on peak days (Immaculate Conception long weekend) to manage parking and crowds. Combine your visit with a tour of the Aldobrandesca Fortress and local wineries.
