About Wednesdays in the Village

Every summer Wednesday evening, the medieval village of Castagneto Carducci tells its story through a guided walk along its stone alleys. A local expert accompanies visitors as they discover the history of the Counts Della Gherardesca, the sacred and profane aspects of the town, and curiosities about life in days gone by. The experience concludes with a tasting of local olive oils, wines, and typical Castagneto specialties. This free, reservation-only initiative is organized by the Associazione Messidoro in the heart of the Etruscan Coast and the lands of Bolgheri.

A stroll through the heart of Tuscany's wine country

Wednesdays in the Village is the summer series that brings the historic center of Castagneto Carducci to life every Wednesday evening—a small medieval gem perched on the hills of the Province of Livorno, in Tuscany. Located within the famous Etruscan Coast area and just a few kilometers from the vineyards of Bolgheri, the village offers an experience that weaves together history, culture, and local flavors.

Through the alleys of the Della Gherardesca

The heart of the initiative is a cultural walk along the streets and characteristic stone alleys of the town, led by an expert who knows the area intimately. The narrative ranges from the history of the Counts Della Gherardesca, the ancient lords of these lands, to curiosities about daily life in the past, blending the sacred aspects of local devotion with popular folklore. It is a formula that allows you to see the village with new eyes and understand its most authentic identity.

The flavors of Castagneto at the table

At the end of the guided tour, participants can take part in a tasting of typical Castagneto products: extra virgin olive oils, local wines, and regional specialties, in a tasting that celebrates the culinary vocation of this corner of Tuscany. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the excellence of a land world-famous for its great red wines.

The lands of Carducci

Castagneto Carducci owes its name to the poet Giosuè Carducci, a Nobel Prize winner for literature, who spent his childhood here and to whom the town's Literary Park is dedicated. Walking through the village at sunset, when the golden light caresses the stones and the view opens up over the hills and the sea, means immersing yourself in the atmosphere that inspired the poet's verses.

A weekly appointment all summer long

The series takes place every Wednesday throughout the summer season, with the meeting point in the late afternoon—the ideal time to enjoy the sunset light. The event is free and requires advance booking; it is organized by the Associazione Messidoro with the patronage of the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci. It is an initiative designed to enhance the village's historical and cultural heritage and to offer residents and tourists a slow, mindful way to experience the Tuscan summer.
