The Val di Cecina village has been celebrating its DOC wine since 1967
The Montescudaio DOC Wine Festival has been held annually since 1967 during the first weekend of October, becoming one of the most deeply rooted food and wine events in the Val di Cecina. The small village of Montescudaio, located in the province of Pisa and overlooking the hills that slope down toward the sea, opens its streets and squares to celebrate the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) wine that bears the town's name, recognized since 1976 as one of Tuscany's first DOCs.
The heart of the event lies in the guided tastings of wines from the Consorzio Vino Montescudaio DOC, with tasting stalls scattered throughout the historic center, Fisar sommeliers, and dedicated sensory journeys. Alongside local producers, you will find street food stands, traditional dishes, local crafts, and village shops, while Piazzale Belvedere and the main squares host dining areas and music stages.
The festival is about more than just oenology: the program features concerts, marching bands, dance performances, art exhibitions, and activities for children. Among the most characteristic elements are the vineyard walks accompanied by winemakers and experts, mountain bike tours through the rows of vines, and the ancient bond with rural culture, evidenced by the grape-pressing ritual and the presence of vintage tractors. The event, spread throughout the entire medieval village rather than concentrated in a single square, concludes in grand style with a highly anticipated fireworks display.
In recent years, the Wine Festival has strengthened its community spirit and openness to the world, welcoming delegations from the twin towns of the Municipality of Montescudaio. It has thus become a living narrative of culture, passion, and identity that involves the entire town and the visitors who travel to this corner of Tuscany every year to discover the wines and flavors of the province of Pisa.
The 2026 Montescudaio DOC Wine Festival celebrates the 58th edition of one of Tuscany's longest-running food and wine festivals, established in 1967. The event is set for the first weekend of October, with dates indicated by tourist sources around October 2-4, 2026; some sources highlight Sunday as the main highlight in the historic center of Montescudaio.
For 2026, the Val di Cecina village in the province of Pisa is once again preparing to welcome visitors and enthusiasts with tastings of wines from the Consorzio Vino Montescudaio DOC, producer stalls, street food, vineyard walks, and live music throughout the streets and squares of the town.
The detailed program for the 58th edition, including times, musical guests, and day-by-day activities, will be announced by the Consorzio Vino Montescudaio DOC in the weeks leading up to the event.
Based on recent editions, the festival typically offers:
Montescudaio is located in the province of Pisa, in the hinterland of the Val di Cecina. By car, it can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia (Cecina exit), continuing inland for a few kilometers. The nearest train station is in Cecina, on the Tirrenica line, from where you can continue by bus or car.
Admission to the festival is free. DOC wine tastings are available via tasting kits that can be purchased on-site; some activities, such as vineyard walks and sensory tours, require prior booking.
The event is traditionally held on the first weekend of October.
