The autumn Törggelen festival on the South Tyrolean Wine Road
The Törggeletage in Tramin is the grand autumn festival celebrating new wine, held in Tramin an der Weinstraße, a renowned wine-growing village in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. The event marks the end of the grape and fruit harvest, following the ancient Törggelen custom, a South Tyrolean autumn ritual that pairs new wine with seasonal delicacies. It is considered one of the oldest and most genuine Törggelen festivals in all of South Tyrol.
The term Törggelen comes from Torggl, the ancient wine press once used to crush grapes. With the arrival of autumn, families and friends would gather in cellars and farmhouses to taste the must and the first wine of the new vintage, accompanied by chestnuts, cured meats, and rustic dishes. In Tramin, this custom comes alive in the heart of the village: numerous taverns and wineries offer a glimpse into the world of viticulture, must production, and traditional fruit processing.
