A gourmet stroll along the old Val di Fiemme railway
The Montaner Genussmeile is one of the most beloved autumn events in the municipality of Montagna/Montan, a charming village in the Province of Bolzano overlooking the South Tyrol Wine Road (Südtiroler Weinstraße). The event transforms the old Val di Fiemme railway (Fleimstalbahn) track into a long corridor of taste, where local associations and producers showcase their specialties in a relaxed, joyful, and friendly setting.
The former railway line, now converted into a convenient pedestrian and cycle path, connects the Montagna area to Pinzano/Pinzon, passing through vineyards, apple orchards, and scenic viewpoints over the Oltradige valley. The elevation gain is gentle and consistent, making the multi-kilometer route easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, or via the shuttle service provided during the event. Along the way, you will also encounter the striking Gleno viaduct, a testament to historic railway engineering.
The true heart of the Genussmeile lies in the stalls managed by the Montagna local associations, which bring the route to life with genuine, homemade culinary offerings. Traditional specialties typically available include:
Every association, from sports clubs and parish groups to the Mountain Rescue service, contributes with its own stand, making the event an authentic community celebration.
The Montaner Genussmeile is more than just a food festival: it is an opportunity to experience the autumn landscape of South Tyrol, walking amidst the colorful vineyards and savoring local products. Its informal, family-friendly atmosphere, combined with the beauty of the surroundings, makes it one of the most characteristic gourmet walks in the southern part of the Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The new edition of the Montaner Genussmeile will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Montagna/Montan, on the South Tyrol Wine Road. The date is confirmed by the organizers; the detailed list of stalls and culinary offerings from individual associations will be published in the weeks leading up to the event.
For 2026, the event will once again wind along the former Val di Fiemme railway track, amidst vineyards and apple orchards, with the option to explore the route on foot, by bicycle, or via the shuttle service. The detailed program will be announced by the Municipality of Montagna and the organizing associations in the weeks prior to the event.
