The wine alley in the historic center of Termeno, on the South Tyrol Wine Road
The Traminer Weingassl is one of the most authentic and evocative wine festivals in South Tyrol. Every year in autumn, the pedestrian historic center of Termeno sulla strada del vino (Tramin an der Weinstraße), in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, turns into a grand open-air wine alley. The village that gave its name to the Traminer grape variety celebrates the gold of autumn and the treasures of its cellars, set against a backdrop of frescoed houses, arcades, and cobblestone lanes.
Along the village streets, Termeno's major wineries and numerous private winemakers set up their tasting stands to showcase the best wines of the region. The undisputed star is, of course, the Gewürztraminer, the aromatic wine that made Termeno famous worldwide, accompanied by other local excellences such as Lagrein, Pinot Noir, and the whites of the South Tyrol Wine Road. At the entrance, with a 5-euro deposit, you receive an elegant glass bearing the Termeno crest, which you can use to taste wines from stand to stand.
Wine tasting is paired with seasonal gastronomic specialties served by local hosts and farmers: roasted chestnuts, Brettljause (platters of cured meats and cheeses), apple fritters, krapfen, and typical local products. The service is self-service, allowing you to leisurely savor the pleasures of the South Tyrolean autumn.
A varied program of live music turns the historic alleys into small stages, while the festivities continue from the afternoon until late at night. The intimate atmosphere of the village, illuminated and closed to traffic, makes the Traminer Weingassl a beloved event for both residents and visitors from the Oltradige and Bassa Atesina areas.
Organized by the Termeno Tourist Association, the Traminer Weingassl is one of the flagship events on the South Tyrol Wine Road food and wine calendar. The day often begins with a culinary walk through the vineyards on the hills surrounding Termeno, followed by lunch at a typical local establishment. Admission to the festival is free, and no ticket is required.
