Culture, music, and autumn flavors among the castles and historic residences of Berg/Monte di Appiano
Castelmusika is one of the most evocative autumn events in Appiano sulla strada del vino/Eppan an der Weinstraße, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Organized by the Appiano Tourist Association, the event transforms the hamlet of Berg/Monte di Appiano into a vast open-air stage for a full day, where culture, music, and seasonal flavors intertwine within the walls of historic castles and residences.
Berg/Monte di Appiano boasts one of the highest densities of castles in all of South Tyrol. Walking through the vineyards, which turn shades of red and gold in October, you will encounter fascinating manors and noble residences: from the majestic Castel d'Appiano (Hocheppan), with its pentagonal tower and Romanesque frescoes, to Castel Boymont, a rare example of a medieval castle designed as a manor rather than a fortress, and Castel Corba (Korb) along with other historic estates scattered across the mountain. It is in this very setting that Castelmusika comes to life.
Throughout the day, the courtyards and most picturesque corners of these historic homes are enlivened by Appiano's choirs, musical ensembles, and traditional dance groups. Music accompanies visitors along a simple, scenic route designed for families to explore on foot, moving from one stop to the next through history, nature, and melody.
Local associations and producers complete the experience with seasonal specialties: traditional autumn dishes, homemade cakes and desserts, and, of course, the fine wines of Appiano, one of South Tyrol's most renowned wine-growing regions. Castelmusika is the perfect opportunity to combine the discovery of historical heritage with local food and wine in one of the most beautiful seasons to visit the Bassa Atesina.
Easily accessible via dedicated shuttle buses heading up to Monte di Appiano, Castelmusika is a free event suitable for all ages, offering a playful and convivial way to discover the cultural and scenic richness of this corner of Trentino-South Tyrol.
The twelfth edition of Castelmusika is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, among the castles and historic residences of Berg/Monte di Appiano. As per tradition, the courtyards and manors will be brought to life by Appiano's choirs, musical groups, and traditional dance formations, while local associations will offer traditional autumn dishes, homemade desserts, and fine Appiano wines.
The day unfolds along a simple, scenic walking route suitable for the whole family, accessible via the 135.1 shuttle bus line to Monte di Appiano. Admission is free.
The detailed program, including the list of musical groups, choirs, and participating residences, will be published by the Appiano Tourist Association in the weeks leading up to the event.
