About Törggelefest TV Marling

Every October, the Tischtennisverein Marling brings its Törggelefest to the Festplatz in Marling, the village's most anticipated autumn celebration. It is a day dedicated to the South Tyrolean Törggelen tradition: roasted chestnuts, Suser (new grape must), homemade cakes, and music by the Marling/Tscherms youth band. A convivial, family-friendly event held in any weather in the heart of the Burgraviato, just a short distance from Merano.

The Törggelefest of the Tischtennisverein Marling

The Törggelefest of the Tischtennisverein Marling is the autumn festival organized by the table tennis club of Marling, a small town in the Burgraviato region nestled on a sunny terrace above the Adige Valley, just 3 kilometers from Merano in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every October, the village Festplatz on A. Pattis-Straße comes alive for a day dedicated to one of South Tyrol's most deep-rooted traditions: the Törggelen.

The Törggelen tradition

With the arrival of autumn, when the vineyards around Marling turn shades of red and gold, the typical South Tyrolean custom of Törggelen is renewed. The name comes from the dialect term Torggl, the wine press once used to crush grapes: during the harvest season, farmers would open their cellars to offer new wine. The table tennis club's festival brings this atmosphere to the town center, featuring the genuine flavors of the season.

What to expect

The day begins in the morning with the traditional Frühschoppen, a mid-morning aperitif accompanied by live music. Starting at noon, the simple and authentic gastronomic offerings begin:

  • Roasted chestnuts (Kastanien), the stars of the South Tyrolean autumn table;
  • Suser, the new grape must, sweet and sparkling, to be enjoyed fresh;
  • Homemade cakes, prepared by the club's volunteers;
  • Music and entertainment provided by the Marling/Tscherms youth band (Jugendkapelle) and an additional musical group.

A festival for everyone

The Törggelefest is a popular, family-friendly event designed to bring locals and visitors together in a cheerful atmosphere. Proceeds support the activities of the local table tennis club, the heart of Marling's sporting life. The festival takes place in any weather condition, ensuring a successful day even in case of rain.

Marling and the Burgraviato

Surrounded by orchards and vineyards and favored by a mild climate, Marling is one of the most appreciated destinations in the Merano area. Participating in the Törggelefest means experiencing the South Tyrolean autumn in its most authentic form, amidst seasonal flavors, traditional music, and the warm hospitality of the local community.
