The Saturday morning farmers' market in Piazza Burggräfler, Naturno
The Naturnser Bauernmarkt, or Naturno Farmers' Market, is the weekly event that transforms Piazza Burggräfler into the village's agricultural hub every Saturday morning. From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, local farmers showcase the fruits of their labor: seasonal fruit and vegetables, freshly baked bread, alpine cheese, and speck cured according to South Tyrolean tradition. Everything is produced and processed directly by the vendors, ensuring a short supply chain that brings the harvest straight to the square.
The market runs throughout the warm season, opening its doors in early June and continuing, Saturday after Saturday, until late October. The rhythm follows the agricultural calendar: stalls are filled with summer apricots and strawberries, the first apples from the Merano area, and finally, grapes and chestnuts as autumn deepens. Regular visitors can witness the agricultural cycle of the Val Venosta, one of the most renowned fruit-growing valleys in the entire Alpine region.
The strength of the Bauernmarkt lies in direct sales. There are no middlemen: behind every stall is the producer, ready to share how their apples were grown or how their speck was cured. Among the most sought-after items:
The Municipality of Naturno (Naturns), in the province of Bolzano, is located at the entrance to the Val Venosta, in one of the sunniest areas of South Tyrol (the Trentino-Alto Adige region). Surrounded by apple orchards and vineyards, the village is a popular destination for hiking and its proximity to the Stelvio National Park. The farmers' market fits naturally into this setting, offering residents and tourists the chance to discover authentic local flavors and support regional agriculture.
More than just a market, the Bauernmarkt is a social gathering. It is a place to chat with producers, sample goods, and stroll through the stalls with a shopping basket, perhaps ending the morning with a coffee at one of the cafes overlooking the square. It is the perfect opportunity to take home an authentic piece of South Tyrol and experience Naturno at the relaxed pace of its village Saturdays.
In 2026, the Naturno Farmers' Market returns with its regular Saturday morning appointment, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in Piazza Burggräfler. The season opens in early June and continues until late October, with dates covering the months of July (18th and 25th), August (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th), September (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th), and October (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st). The stalls follow the rhythm of the agricultural year: from summer fruit from the Val Venosta to autumn apples and chestnuts, always with direct sales from the producers.
Admission is free, and the market is open to residents and tourists visiting the Merano area and South Tyrol.
