About VinoCulti

VinoCulti is the autumn food and wine festival held in the village of Tirolo, perched above Merano in South Tyrol. For several weeks between September and November, the village celebrates wine and viticultural heritage through tastings, vineyard hikes, and events blending wine with music, literature, and architecture. The highlight is the Schlosswegfestl (Castle Road Festival), a harvest celebration in the heart of the village featuring live music, choirs, and traditional South Tyrolean farmhouse cuisine.

VinoCulti, the star of autumn in Tirolo

VinoCulti – Experiencing Wine in Tirolo is a festival that, for several weeks between September and November, transforms the village of Tirolo (Dorf Tirol), in the province of Bolzano, into a stage dedicated to wine and oenological culture. Nestled above Merano, at the foot of the Texel Group Nature Park and dominated by the eponymous Castel Tirolo, the village is one of the oldest and most renowned wine-growing areas in South Tyrol. In autumn, it showcases its unique identity, rooted in vineyards, mountain farms, and rural traditions.

A journey through wine and culture

VinoCulti is not just a single-day event, but a comprehensive calendar of initiatives that weaves wine together with music, literature, architecture, and fine dining. Key events that have defined the festival over time include:

  • On the Wine Trail: guided hikes through the village vineyards, accompanied by local winemakers, with stops at historic castles and farms such as Castel Tirolo, Castel Thurnstein, Castel Torre, and Brunnenburg.
  • VinoCulti Dolcissimo: a tasting dedicated to great South Tyrolean sweet wines, including Moscato Rosa and passito, set in evocative venues like Castel Tirolo.
  • Wine & Music, Wine & Literature, Wine & Architecture: thematic meetings that pair a glass of wine with a concert, a reading, or an exploration of the local landscape.
  • Autumn menus offered by local restaurants, focusing on seasonal dishes and typical regional products.

The Schlosswegfestl, the heart of the festival

The highlight of VinoCulti is the Schlosswegfestl (Castle Road Festival), the harvest celebration that brings the village center to life. Along the road leading up to the castle, stands from local wineries and associations offer tastings of regional wines and traditional farmhouse specialties: chestnut soup, pork ribs, goulash with dumplings, and Strauben, the typical Tyrolean fritters. The soundtrack is provided by live music and local choirs, creating a convivial atmosphere that draws both residents and visitors.

An experience in the South Tyrolean wine landscape

Participating in VinoCulti means experiencing Tirolo in its most authentic season, just after the harvest, when the village is dressed in autumn colors. The festival is a unique opportunity to discover South Tyrolean wines directly from the producers, strolling through the vines and castles in one of the most photogenic landscapes in the Merano region.
