Autumnal Törggelen in the heart of Naturno, featuring new wine, roasted chestnuts, and music
In the heart of Naturno (Naturns), a charming town in the Burgraviato district of the Province of Bolzano, the Törggelen am Dorfbrunnen—or Törggelen at the village fountain—returns every Wednesday in October. Around the historic fountain in the pedestrian center, the convivial atmosphere of one of South Tyrol's most beloved autumn traditions is recreated, blending the warmth of mountain folk with the genuine flavors of seasonal products.
Törggelen is an autumn custom in South Tyrol/Südtirol with roots in a centuries-old tradition. Once the grape harvest was finished, local farmers would gather to celebrate together with new wine, sauerkraut, smoked meat, Krapfen, and roasted chestnuts. The name derives from Torggl, the ancient wine press used to crush grapes. In Naturno, this tradition is revived in a public and joyful form, open to both residents and visitors.
From 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, at the fountain in the town center, you can enjoy roasted chestnuts and new wine, all accompanied by live music that creates the festive atmosphere typical of these autumn days. It is an informal, open-air event designed to savor the flavors of the season in good company.
Coinciding with the Törggelen, a flea market is held every Wednesday in October in Piazza Municipio from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Among the stalls, you can find second-hand items, curiosities, and small treasures, making a day in Naturno a pleasant opportunity for an autumn stroll that combines gastronomy, tradition, and outdoor shopping.
Located along the Val Venosta, just a few kilometers from Merano, Naturno is a sunny village framed by vineyards and orchards. Autumn is perhaps the most evocative season to visit: the foliage colors the slopes, the apple orchards turn red, and the air fills with the scent of chestnuts. The Törggelen at the village fountain is an authentic way to discover the food and wine culture of the Trentino-Alto Adige region and experience South Tyrolean hospitality in its simplest and most sincere form.
The Törggelen am Dorfbrunnen returns to Naturno for four autumn Wednesdays: October 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2026. Each appointment takes place at the fountain in the town center, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with roasted chestnuts, new wine, and live music. In parallel, the flea market comes to life in Piazza Municipio from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. An opportunity to experience the South Tyrolean autumn tradition in the municipality of Naturno, in the Province of Bolzano.
Naturno is located in the Val Venosta, about 15 km from Merano. By car, it can be reached via the SS38 Val Venosta state road; by train, take the Merano–Malles line (Naturno stop). The event takes place in the pedestrian center, by the village fountain.
