The autumn Törggelen festival by the Marling brass band
The Törggelefest der Musikkapelle Marling is the annual autumn event organized by the brass band (Musikkapelle) of Marling, a small town in the Burgraviato region nestled on the sunny slopes above Meran, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). The festival takes place at the village Festplatz on A. Pattis-Straße and celebrates one of South Tyrol's most beloved traditions: Törggelen.
Törggelen is an ancient South Tyrolean autumn custom that marks the end of the grape harvest and the tapping of new wine. The name comes from the wine press (known locally as Torggl) used for crushing grapes. Traditionally, people go from farm to farm to enjoy roasted chestnuts (Keschtn), new wine (Nuier or Sußer), speck, cured meats, cheeses, and typical seasonal desserts. The Musikkapelle Marling brings this tradition to the village Festplatz, turning it into a grand celebration open to everyone.
The event kicks off in the morning at 10:00 AM with the Frühschoppen, the traditional Sunday musical aperitif. The stage will feature a guest South Tyrolean brass band and the young ensemble Musig Unlocked, a youth group bringing together musicians from Lagundo, Quarazze, Cermes, and Marling. In the afternoon, starting at 2:00 PM, the festivities continue with the Törggelen-Nachmittag and Tanzlmusig, the dance music that keeps the tent lively until evening.
At the heart of the festival is a selection of tasty South Tyrolean specialties: from chestnuts to new wine, from speck to dumplings, and traditional autumn desserts. It is the perfect opportunity to savor genuine products from the Vinschgau Valley and the Meran area in an authentic, family-friendly setting.
The Törggelefest is much more than just a festival: it is a moment when the brass band and the entire community of Marling come together to celebrate autumn. Admission is free, the area is wheelchair accessible, and the atmosphere is typical of South Tyrolean village festivals, where folk music, good food, and hospitality blend perfectly. With its scenic promenade and vineyards sloping down toward Meran, Marling also offers the ideal backdrop for an autumn excursion in South Tyrol.
On Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Musikkapelle Marling invites you to its Törggelefest at the Festplatz in Marling (A. Pattis-Straße).
