The Tirolo Brass Band in Concert

In the small village of Tirolo (Tirol in German), perched high above Merano in the province of Bolzano, the Musikkapelle Dorf Tirol is a cornerstone of local community life. With around sixty musicians, the band regularly enlivens festivals, processions, and local traditions throughout South Tyrol, and each year they present a series of evening concerts to accompany the autumn season.

Autumn Musical Evenings

The series takes place on select Thursday evenings between mid-September and late October, starting at 8:30 PM. Concerts are held in the Tirolo Vereinshaus on Hauptstraße, or outdoors on the Festplatz when the weather is clear. It is an event designed for both locals and visitors staying in the Merano area during the Törggelen season and autumn hiking months.

The Repertoire

The program spans from traditional brass band music, featuring marches, polkas, and waltzes, to symphonic wind music and modern entertainment arrangements. It is a showcase that celebrates the heritage of South Tyrolean Blasmusik, which is deeply rooted in the identity of the German-speaking communities of the region.

A Centuries-Old Tradition

The musical roots of Tirolo run deep: parish records document the presence of musicians accompanying processions as far back as the 17th century. The band in its current form was reorganized at the beginning of the 20th century and today manages dozens of commitments annually, including rehearsals, concerts, and performances. The autumn concerts offer a chance to hear them in an intimate and convivial setting.

Free Admission

Admission to the concerts is free. The series is organized by the Musikkapelle Dorf Tirol in collaboration with the Tirolo Tourist Office, which includes it in the municipal event calendar.
