Törggelen Days in the church square of Lagundo
The Törggele-Genusstage (Törggelen Days) are a beloved autumn event held in the heart of Lagundo (known as Algund in German), a charming wine-growing village located just outside Merano, in the Province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige). For this occasion, the Kirchplatz (church square) turns into a welcoming Törggelen haven, where locals and visitors gather to celebrate the autumn season and the grape harvest together.
Törggelen is one of the most cherished customs in South Tyrol. The name stems from the Latin torculus (wine press) and the local dialect word Torggl, referring to the room where grapes were once pressed and new wine was tasted. Traditionally, Törggelen is celebrated from early October to mid-November in local taverns and cellars. As the vineyards around Lagundo turn shades of gold and red, it is the perfect time to enjoy Süßer—freshly tapped sweet grape must—paired with seasonal local delicacies.
During the Törggele-Genusstage, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the square comes alive with flavors and music. Featured specialties include freshly roasted chestnuts (known as "Keschtn"), homemade Krapfen, and platters of South Tyrolean speck, all paired with sweet Süßer and local wines. The backdrop is provided by the sounds of Alpine folk music, which fills the afternoon and creates the convivial, relaxed atmosphere typical of the Törggelen tradition.
The event is organized by the Lagundo Tourist Office (Tourismusverein Algund) and offers a fantastic opportunity to discover the gastronomic traditions of the Burgraviato region, just a stone's throw from Merano. The church square is located in the flat, easily accessible center of the village, with an underground parking garage equipped with an elevator located directly beneath it.
For the 2026 edition, the event is scheduled for Friday, October 2nd and Friday, October 9th, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Kirchplatz in Lagundo (Algund). For two afternoons, the church square transforms into a cozy Törggelen paradise, featuring freshly roasted chestnuts, homemade Krapfen, speck platters, sweet Süßer, and local wines, all accompanied by Alpine folk music.
The 2026 edition takes place on Friday, October 2nd and Friday, October 9th, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
