Almost a century of asparagus

Some festivals become history. The Tavagnacco Asparagus Festival, in the heart of the Udine area, is one of them: its first edition dates back to May 19, 1935, when it was held with great success despite the pouring rain. Since then, it has grown to become the oldest and most historic asparagus festival in Friuli Venezia Giulia, now recognized as a national Quality Festival.

The absolute protagonist: asparagus

The heart of the event is, of course, asparagus, prepared in a thousand ways in the festival kitchens, open for lunch and dinner throughout the event. In recent years, creativity has been abundant, with innovations like Gin Sparc, gin flavored with white asparagus. Accompanying the dishes are the great Friulian wines offered in the tasting workshops curated by AIS FVG (Italian Sommelier Association), with pairings specifically designed for asparagus.

Three weekends of celebration

The festival, organized by Pro Loco Tavagnacco, spans three weekends at the Municipal Park in Via Tolmezzo, Feletto Umberto. In addition to gastronomy, the program includes:

• Live concerts and musical evenings, from rock to traditional Italian music
• "Sparc in Rock", the evening dedicated to young Friulian bands
• Evening DJ sets
• The "Pedalata del Cormor e delle Rogge" cycling tour
• The "Diecimila passi di salute" wellness walk
• Entertainment and games for children organized by the Oratorio Arcobaleno

Tavagnacco and the Friulian plain

A few kilometers from Udine, Tavagnacco is the gateway to the Friulian plain and its products. The Asparagus Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover a land of fields, irrigation channels, and agricultural traditions, just a stone's throw from the provincial capital and the Friulian hills.
