The great autumn festival of the Friulian chestnut
When the hills of Magnano in Riviera are tinged with autumn colors, the Pro Loco lights up the large heated marquee and kicks off Flavors of Chestnuts, the festival that has been one of the most beloved gastronomic events in the Friulian foothills for years. Two October weekends dedicated to the queen of autumn, the chestnut, in every possible way.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Magnano in Riviera with the patronage of the Municipality, has the formula of a big village festival: the covered and heated marquee guarantees the party even in bad weather, while the kitchen works at full speed to serve a rich and varied table.
Of course, the chestnut is the protagonist—even in its most surprising version, chestnut beer—but the Flavors of Chestnuts menu embraces all of Friulian tradition: gnocchi, minestrone, porchetta, goulash, the unmissable frico, potatoes, cheeses, and typical desserts. Hearty cuisine, designed to warm up autumn days.
Alongside the food, the program includes musical evenings with DJs and local bands, dancing, the Choral Festival, workshops, and treasure hunts for the little ones. The festival concludes with the traditional international chestnut march, a non-competitive walk that crosses the most beautiful landscapes of the Magnano in Riviera area, a municipality in the Friulian hills in the province of Udine, not far from the Tagliamento river.
In 2026, the chestnut will once again be the star in Magnano in Riviera with the Pro Loco's autumn festival. The confirmed format includes two weekends of celebration under the heated marquee, with typical cuisine, musical evenings, workshops for the little ones, and the traditional international chestnut march to conclude.
The detailed program will be announced in the coming weeks by the Pro Loco of Magnano in Riviera. The traditional structure includes gastronomic stands featuring chestnuts and Friulian dishes, musical evenings with DJs and local bands, the Choral Festival, workshops, and treasure hunts for children, and the international chestnut march on the last Sunday.
