The bison and polenta festival in the Bassa Friulana
In Ronchis, in the province of Udine, one of the most original festivals in the Bassa Friulana takes place every autumn: the Bison and Polenta Festival. Although it is a recent event, it has quickly become established in the local calendar thanks to its curious gastronomic offerings and a rich entertainment program.
The secret is the meeting of two worlds: on one hand, polenta, a symbolic dish of Friulian peasant tradition; on the other, bison meat, an unusual and highly appealing protagonist that gives the festival its name.
At the food stalls, bison is served in many ways: from bison stew on soft polenta to potato gnocchi with bison ragù, accompanied by local wines and draught beer. A hearty and convivial offering, perfect for autumn evenings.
In addition to good food, the festival offers a varied program: dancing evenings with orchestras and DJ sets, concerts, shows, children's games and workshops, a craft market, dog exhibitions, the "Ronchis è di Moda" fashion show, and the Vespa gathering for vintage vehicle enthusiasts. A mix that attracts an audience of all ages.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Ronchis, which manages the entire festival area of the town, with the support of the Municipality of Ronchis. A festival that showcases the vitality of a small Friulian community capable of reinventing tradition with creativity.
The Bison and Polenta Festival is also expected in Ronchis in 2026, during the usual period between late September and early October, spread over several weekends. The festival's signature dishes, from bison stew on polenta to gnocchi with bison ragù, are confirmed, along with a program of dancing evenings, DJ sets, concerts, a craft market, dog exhibitions, the "Ronchis è di Moda" fashion show, and a Vespa gathering.
The exact dates will be announced by Pro Loco Ronchis in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks. Based on previous editions, the festival includes:
