The great September festival of Mortegliano, featuring corn, polenta, and Italy's tallest bell tower
The September Celebrations are the great end-of-summer festival in Mortegliano, in the plain of Udine. For about ten days in September, the village gathers under a large marquee covering over 1,000 square meters, equipped with food stalls, a beer garden, a wine bar, and a funfair. It's the festival that closes the season and celebrates the agricultural identity of an area where corn and polenta are more than just food – they are culture.
Food is at the heart of the festival: handmade gnocchi with Montasio cheese cream, polenta dishes, grilled meats, fried calamari, and local cheeses. Among the most cherished events is the Dinner with Corn, a gastronomic dinner with local restaurateurs dedicated to the cereal that has shaped Friulian cuisine. Service is organized with booking modules and compostable tableware, reflecting the festival's commitment to sustainability.
Alongside the food, the program features pop-rock concerts, cover bands, the Alpea Basketball Trophy, a 'briscola' card game tournament with food prizes, and the family bike ride "Mortean Pedala". The festival concludes with a grand lottery. Everything takes place in the heart of Mortegliano, a town famous for housing Italy's tallest bell tower (over 113 meters), which dominates the plain and serves as a backdrop to the Celebrations.
Organized in the territory of the Municipality of Mortegliano (Province of Udine), the September Celebrations are a deeply popular event, attracting visitors from all over the Bassa Friulana region to experience authentic village conviviality.
The September Celebrations 2026 will once again mark the end of summer in Mortegliano in September. Under the marquee covering over 1,000 square meters, the food stalls will return with gnocchi with Montasio cheese, polenta, and grilled meats, along with the beer garden, wine bar, and funfair, as well as concerts, sports tournaments, the Dinner with Corn, and the final lottery.
The precise dates will be announced by the organizers on their official channels in the weeks leading up to the event, in line with the usual timing in the second half of September.
