About Tartufesta

Every autumn, the hilltop village of Montaione, in the province of Florence, celebrates its most precious treasure with Tartufesta, a market exhibition of white truffles and local specialties. Over the last two Sundays of October, the historic center comes alive with truffle hunters' stalls, the 'Via dei Sapori' (Way of Flavors), an arts and crafts market, cooking shows with renowned chefs, forest excursions, and tastings. This beloved event, running for over thirty years, masterfully blends Tuscan gastronomy, rural tradition, and stunning landscapes.

The Tartufesta of Montaione

The Tartufesta is the most important and highly anticipated event of the year in Montaione, a small village in the Valdelsa area of the province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. For over thirty years, this market exhibition has celebrated the white truffle (Tuber magnatum pico) and the entire local supply chain of typical products, transforming the historic center into a grand stage for autumn aromas, flavors, and traditions.

The Truffle Village

The hills of Montaione, with the woods of Evola and Carfalo, have always been truffle country: a vocation that the local municipality and truffle hunters proudly uphold. During Tartufesta, the village hosts stalls selling fresh truffles, as well as producers of Chianti wine, cheeses, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil, saffron, honey, and jams. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the food and wine excellence of the Tuscan Valdelsa in an authentic and intimate setting.

Program and Atmosphere

The festival offers a rich and varied program, typically spread over the last two Sundays of October, often with a preview on Saturday evening. Highlights include:

  • TartuRรฉ: the exhibition and sale of fresh truffles by local truffle hunters;
  • La Via dei Sapori: a route dedicated to local producers and regional excellence;
  • Arts & Crafts Market: craftsmanship and creativity along the village streets;
  • Cooking shows and CookingArtShow with renowned chefs preparing truffle dishes;
  • Truffle hunting demonstrations with trained dogs;
  • Guided excursions in the woods, horseback riding, and visits to the Jerusalem of San Vivaldo;
  • Live music, children's entertainment, and the convivial ritual of AperiTartufo.

Autumn Flavors

Throughout the Tartufesta period, and for over a month, Montaione's restaurants offer special truffle-based menus as part of the Il Tartufo nel Piatto (Truffle on the Plate) initiative: a way to extend the celebration and enjoy the precious tuber through local culinary interpretations. With its warm colors, forest scents, and the hospitality of the village, Tartufesta is an unmissable stop on the Tuscan gastronomic autumn calendar.

Tartufesta โ€” edition 2026

Tartufesta returns to Montaione in autumn 2026 for its 33rd edition, faithful to the tradition of the last two Sundays of October. The date of Sunday, October 25, 2026, is already included in the municipal calendar for the 'Il paesaggio ritrovato' project, featuring a dedicated 'Tartufesta 26' excursion through the woods of Evola and Carfalo. The detailed program with times, cooking shows, and market details will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.

The 2026 edition of the Montaione Tartufesta is expected on the last two Sundays of October, continuing the long tradition of the event.
