New oil and the ancient village of the Rocca di Montemurlo
The Montemurlo Olive Oil Festival is one of the most beloved food and wine events in the province of Prato, Tuscany. Every year, in mid-November, the charming Rocca village comes alive to celebrate the freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil, the star product of the Montemurlo hills. The festival takes place in the most characteristic spots of the ancient village: the ancient Pieve di San Giovanni Battista Decollato, the Castle, the remains of the walls, the gates, the square, and the historic Rocca oil mill.
Founded in 1999, the Olive Oil Festival is organized by the Associazione Il Borgo della Rocca O.d.V. in collaboration with the Municipality of Montemurlo. Starting as a two-day event, the festival has grown to span several days, becoming a benchmark for local producers and regional associations. Beyond promoting olive oil, the festival has always held strong community value, contributing to the restoration and enhancement of the ancient Rocca village.
The Olive Oil Festival is more than just a gastronomic event: it is an opportunity to rediscover the identity of Montemurlo and its historic village. Through historical re-enactments, costume pageants, entertainment, and musical moments, the event tells the story of the deep bond between the community and its land. The Municipality of Montemurlo, located between Prato and Pistoia at the foot of the Montalbano, preserves in this festival one of its most cherished traditions, capable of attracting visitors from all over central Tuscany.
The 2026 edition of the Montemurlo Olive Oil Festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2026, as announced by the Associazione Il Borgo della Rocca on the event's official website. Once again this year, the Rocca village will provide the backdrop for the festival dedicated to new oil, featuring mill tastings, food stalls, a local market, and cultural moments. The complete program, including times and initiatives, will be released by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
Montemurlo is located in the province of Prato, Tuscany, easily accessible from the Prato Ovest exit of the A11 Firenze-Mare motorway. By train, the reference station is Prato Centrale, with bus connections to Montemurlo. The Rocca village is located on the hills north of the town center.
During the main day, a free shuttle bus service usually operates from various town squares to Piazza Castello at the Rocca, with traffic restrictions in the village area.
Access to the event is free; some activities (dinners, tastings) may require a fee. For information: Associazione Il Borgo della Rocca, e-mail [email protected], tel. +39 379 1493867.
