The grand autumn market in the historic center of Empoli
Empolissima Autumn is one of the most anticipated events on the Empoli calendar: with the arrival of the colder season, the historic center of Empoli, in the heart of the Province of Florence and Tuscany, turns into a massive, extraordinary open-air market. It is more than just a market; it is a true city festival that blends the tradition of street commerce with the vitality of the downtown area, featuring open shops, bars, and restaurants ready to welcome residents and visitors for an entire day.
The autumn version of Empolissima traditionally consists of two dates spread across October and November, accompanying the city through the first part of the chilly season. It is during this period that the market signals the start of autumn in Empoli, anticipating the special pre-Christmas openings and establishing itself as a staple for those seeking open-air shopping opportunities before the holidays.
The market winds through the main streets and squares of the center: starting from the entrance of Via Roma, the route continues toward Piazza della Vittoria, Via Pievano Rolando, Via Salvagnoli, and Via Tinto da Battifolle, forming a backbone that embraces the entire historic center and, in larger editions, extends to neighboring streets and squares. Among the stalls, you will find a rich and varied assortment: fashion and clothing, footwear, home linens, housewares, accessories, gift items, personal care products, and street food, with a special focus on seasonal deals and prices.
The main attraction is shopping, with the market open from morning until evening and the special opening of downtown shops. But Empolissima is above all an opportunity to experience the city: local bars and restaurants stay open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, turning the autumn Sunday into a long stroll among purchases, Tuscan flavors, and social gatherings. To allow the event to take place, traffic closures and temporary road changes are implemented in the affected streets, turning the center into a large pedestrian area for the day.
Empolissima Autumn is organized by Confesercenti Empolese Valdelsa and ANVA Confesercenti, the National Association of Street Vendors, under the patronage of the Municipality of Empoli. The event is part of a calendar of extraordinary markets that accompanies the city throughout the year, with editions dedicated to spring and autumn.
Empoli is the main hub of the Empoli Valdarno, halfway between Florence and Pisa, along the Arno river. Known for its glassmaking tradition and its lively historic center gathered around Piazza Farinata degli Uberti, the city offers visitors of Empolissima an elegant and welcoming urban setting, ideal for combining a day at the market with the discovery of Tuscan heritage.
Empolissima Autumn 2026 is confirmed by the Municipality of Empoli for two dates: Sunday, October 11 and Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, in the streets and squares of the historic center.

The day is also enlivened by the special opening of downtown shops and cafes open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
