About San Miniato White Truffle

Over the last three weekends of November, the medieval village of San Miniato, in the province of Pisa, transforms into Italy's white truffle capital. Amidst the squares and alleys of the historic center, over a hundred exhibitors showcase the prized tubers of the San Miniato Hills alongside local cheeses, cured meats, wine, and olive oil. Cooking shows with star chefs, tastings, a historical pageant, and a rich culinary program make this National Fair one of Italy's most important truffle events, second only to Alba.

The Tuscan capital of the white truffle

Every autumn, during the final three weekends of November, the historic center of San Miniatoโ€”a stunning medieval village perched on the hills between Pisa and Florenceโ€”becomes the beating heart of white truffle culture in Tuscany. The San Miniato White Truffle National Fair, organized by the Fondazione San Miniato Promozione, is one of Italy's most prestigious food and wine events, recognized as the second-largest national white truffle fair after the one in Alba.

A tuber that made history

The San Miniato Hills have always been one of the most ideal areas for harvesting Tuber magnatum Pico, the rare and highly aromatic white truffle. It was right here in San Miniato, in 1954, that the largest specimen ever documented in the world was found: a truffle weighing a staggering 2,520 grams, which was gifted to the President of the United States at the time. This extraordinary legacy has made the San Miniato municipality, in the Province of Pisa, a landmark destination for enthusiasts, restaurateurs, and gourmets from all over Italy and abroad.

What to find at the fair

Throughout the event, the historic center fills with stalls and gourmet booths distributed across Piazza del Duomo, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Dante, and the Loggiati di San Domenico. In addition to fresh white truffles, visitors can purchase and taste:

  • fresh truffles and truffle-based products (oils, sauces, flavored pastas);
  • cheeses and cured meats from the San Miniato Hills;
  • wine and extra virgin olive oil from the Tuscan territory;
  • sweets, honey, and other local culinary excellences.

Cooking shows, culture, and tradition

The fair is more than just a market: the program includes cooking shows with star chefs at the Officina del Tartufo, guided tastings, series such as Letture al tartufo (Truffle Readings) and Tartufi Sonori (Sound Truffles), the inaugural historical pageant, and the appointment of the White Truffle Ambassadors, an honor awarded to individuals who promote Italian culinary culture. In recent years, the event has expanded its horizons to the entire San Miniato Hills territory, which unites thirty municipalities between the Province of Pisa and the Metropolitan City of Florence.

An event for all of Tuscany

With thousands of visitors each weekend, the Fair has become an unmissable appointment on the Tuscan autumn calendar. Strolling through the medieval alleys of San Miniato, enveloped by the unmistakable scent of truffles between one tasting and the next, is an experience that uniquely blends taste, culture, and landscape.
