Five and a half months of cultural events marking the town's 250th anniversary
The 250th anniversary of the founding of the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme is the most significant cultural event of 2026 for this area in the Province of Pisa, Tuscany. The municipality was officially born on June 17, 1776, when the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo, established the "Community of San Giuliano" via a motu proprio, merging thirty-one small villages that were part of the ancient Podesteria of Ripafratta into a single entity. From that administrative act, the community that today counts thousands of inhabitants at the foot of the Monte Pisano was born.
The program opened on June 17, 2026, with a particularly evocative institutional ceremony. For the occasion, thanks to a 3D hologram created by Alkedo Produzioni, Pietro Leopoldo himself "returned" to recount what the San Giuliano territory was like two and a half centuries ago. During the same ceremony, Mayor Matteo Cecchelli received the new heraldic coat of arms of the Municipality from the Prefect of Pisa, along with the decree from the President of the Republic conferring the prestigious title of City upon San Giuliano Terme.
The celebrations do not end in a single day: the municipal administration has built a program lasting five and a half months, running until November 30, the day of the Feast of Tuscany. Scheduled events include:
It is no coincidence that the celebrations intertwine administrative history with thermal history: the waters of the Bagni di Pisa have always been the core identity of San Giuliano Terme, frequented since antiquity and revitalized during the Lorraine era. The journey through time proposed by the program is therefore also a tribute to a thermal vocation that has made this corner of Tuscany at the foot of the Monte Pisano famous.
2026 is the year of the great anniversary: the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme turns 250 years old, having been founded on June 17, 1776. To celebrate, the administration has scheduled a calendar of events extending from June 17 to November 30, intertwining institutional moments and cultural initiatives open to all.
The opening ceremony saw the participation of the Prefect of Pisa Maria Luisa D'Alessandro, the President of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani, and the Vice President of the Regional Council Antonio Mazzeo, in addition to Mayor Matteo Cecchelli and the Councilor for Culture Angela Pisano.
The festival meetings are free to attend and followed by an aperitif at Bar Shelley.
The main events take place in San Giuliano Terme (PI), particularly at the Teatrino dei Granduchi of the Bagni di Pisa and in various locations throughout the municipality.
From June 17 to November 30, 2026, with events distributed throughout the months.
Many events in the program offer free admission. For the updated calendar and any reservations, it is recommended to consult the website of the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme.
San Giuliano Terme is located just a few kilometers from Pisa and is accessible by car and public transport from the city.
