SuperMelle, eating while walking in Valle Varaita

Every year in late June, the small town of Melle, in Valle Varaita (Province of Cuneo, Piedmont), transforms into a large open-air restaurant. SuperMelle is a gourmet walking tour that combines exploring the local area with the pleasure of fine dining: you walk leisurely through the historic center, the hamlets, and the meadows surrounding the village, stopping at a series of stations where different dishes and wines are served.

How the walk works

The route winds through several stages distributed across the squares, former shops, schools, and hamlets of Melle. At each stop, you enjoy a course paired with a local wine, so that by the end of the walk, you have completed a full menu, from appetizer to dessert. Groups depart in staggered intervals throughout the morning, allowing walkers to spread out along the route and enjoy every tasting at their own pace. The walk is simple and suitable for everyone, including families with children.

The flavors of Valle Varaita

The absolute stars are the typical products of the Cuneo Alps: anchovies with green sauce (bagnetto verde), cured meats, vegetable caponata, the famous Toumin dal Mel (the fresh cheese that made the inhabitants of Melle known as the "toumin"), Valle Varaita raviole, grilled meats, aged cheeses, and desserts with paste di meliga cookies. The courses are paired with great Piedmontese wines: Dolcetto, Barbera, Bonarda, Pelaverga, and sparkling wines.

Music and village atmosphere

Roving musicians add to the joy of the day, with groups animating the streets and accompanying walkers from one stage to the next. SuperMelle is above all a community festival, organized by the Pro Loco of Melle with the support of the Municipality, where one can rediscover the pleasure of conviviality and the bond with the Cuneo mountains.

Where it takes place

The event is held in Melle, in Valle Varaita, in the heart of the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The meeting point is generally set in Piazza Botta, in front of the municipal hall, from where the various groups set off along the route.
